Is the 1199 too much?

  1. In my experience Dissatisfaction usually equals unhappiness.

However I wouldn't mind being unhappy if I had a shiny 1199 tucked up in my garage!

  2. Not true. I'm sure I've left several women feeling dissatisfied, but it sure made me happy...

  6. I must admit that I found the Pani a handfull when I tested rode one.Very harsh for the road and a bonkers power band .That's why I bought a new ZZR 1400 instead.

  7. I wouldn't have said 'too much' but the engine character is deffo one where it works well when being revved hard which is hard to do on the road. It's not my cup of tea and especially as it's at least £2500 more than a 899 unless u need it I wouldn't personally get the 1199.

You pays your money and takes your choice!

I maybe think that a 1098 has a better engine character for the road or even a 999 but haven't ridden either.

  9. ET is right. The throttle goes both ways. I hadn't ridden for 24 years. 1199 it is then. :upyeah:

  10. Yes its too much. Don't buy it.

  11. Thought you meant too much money
    too much power you mean!
    Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

  12. All this "the throttle works both ways" cliché.

What is the bloody point of splashing out on a 170 bhp (or whatever it is) race bike unless you're going to use the 170 bhp that you've paid for? It's just willy shaking.

Which is fine. Just admit that you need, for some psychological reason, the fastest, meanest, bad-ass bike on the street, even though you never use what it is capable of, and have done with it. In which case, is the 1199 too much? Well, clearly not, as its potential is stroking your willy.

If you mean, is it useful on a day-to-day basis, well, it's obviously not.
You just have to be clear about what your true motivation is.

When I bought my 851 in 1990, I didn't wring its neck for a few years. It's potential was above my skill level, and I'd already been riding for about 9 years. But it was barely 100 bhp, and the roads were freer of traffic and radars than they are now. What if I'd bought a 170 bhp monster in 1990? It would have been ridiculous.

But there you go. Some people become untouchable GP racers by the time they are 20. It's just my experience, not necessarily yours. But you did ask the question.

  13. i can't believe the real world hasn't been mentioned….

  14. Hi everyone,

I'd like to thank you all for your comments, jokes and point of view. I'm going to make the prudent choice and go for the 899. If in the future I feel I need something more I'll go for the 1199 or whatever is current at that time.

    -Thanks,
    Fabricio
