Motorcycle Road Tax Petition

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Dave, Jan 9, 2014.

  1. Bike manufacturers do have to produce emission figures though don't they, as part of their type approval (or whatever it's called) don't they? As we're now on Euro3, I assume there was Euro1 and Euro2? They just don't put them in brochures as we don't buy bikes on emissions.

As for retrospective, don't forget that when they bought in car emissions testing they started testing that cars met a standard they should have met when new (it affected cars made from 1977 even though testing was brought in late 80s/early 90s). Therefore, they could bring in a test now and make you refit the catalytic converter you removed two years ago. The precedent is there.

Also, don't forget that for years bikes were allowed to pollute more than cars which is only being tightened up now. When did it become the norm for cars to have catalytic converters and compare that to bikes......

This is a petition for those who want cheaper tax for their brand new, completely standard bike I reckon.

  2. Yes, the manufacturers do have to declare emissions figures. The difference to us is the bikes don't have to undergo an emissions test during the MOT.

  3. That's my point, the figures are there and can be added in to our MOT at any point, even covering models that aren't new when the test is introduced. Bikes will get emissions testing at some point, I'd put money on it. It wouldn't be worth bringing it into the test until there's enough bikes to actually test. Given that many bikes now have cats, emissions testing can't be too far away......

  4. ... and this petition would hasten that day. So don't sign it.

  6. You have to remember that Dave (OP) has a garage full of bikes so for him its best part of a grand to tax all his bikes

I did try to feel sorry for you Dave ...but ..... yep green with envy.

  7. Question, how many on here have actually been potted for no tax on their motorcycle?

  8. I never taxed any bike until the ANPR cameras came into general use, got away with it from 1980-2000, so maybe I shouldn't complain too much...

  9. See, some of you posh guys have a Police service equipped with ANPR camera's. El Toro for instance still has peelers with a whistle in his neck of the woods.

  10. Done, and will share with others. Lets hope they listen.

  11. Only if they change the habit of a lifetime. I remember Tony Blair whoring himself about, pre '97 to motorcyclists. He was even in MCN giving pro 2 wheeled promises if I remember correctly. When the coalition set up for business, they made a great fanfare asking what laws the people wanted repealing, what happened in both these cases?..............nothing as usual.

  12. I'm just gonna go right ahead and pay my road tax, cos I'm pretty sure if we start getting taxed on emissions for bikes, many of us will end up paying more, not less.
