A beautiful 999 Biposto on ebay less than 2500 miles from new,a snip @ £3990. (I'm barred from any more bike purchases until I sell some my current stable,sadly)
Personally, and I'm slightly biased here, I reckon the ST2 would be a good bet investment-wise. You can pick 'em up for pennies at the moment, but they're one of those bikes that are a whole lot better than the sum of their parts, so will gain cult status. I can see them gaining value quite rapidly once the classic brigade get their hands on them.
I dont think they will ever achieve cult status. They were fugly. I'd like to think the Pasos might achieve cult status but I doubt it. The 750 possibly but not the 906 or 907ie. Only a few of us like them - that's not really enough to create a market with upward pressure on prices.

I don't think make or manufacturer has much to do with it but I guess you would prefer to put your hard earned into motorcycles you like? Anything with race history (especially if a known Arse has been in the seat!),obviously low production number machines are a solid punt.I have gone a similar route to the one you are thinking of taking and have 5/6 desirable bikes that I've already seen double/triple in value.Ive got 4 mint Japanese 2 Strokes - prob all of them are currently in the top 6 desired Rice burners so will only rise in monetary value.Ive also recently obtained a lovely unrestored Vincent at a snip which I have decided to leave exactly as it is.Just a matter of doing your homework as I'm sure you will but it deffo beats the hell out of a worthless pension? The market current market for 70s/early 80s Japanese bikes is in the stratosphere and has become so lucrative that dealers are importing "grey imports" here from Japan.Most were never sold or offered in the European market so parts can be an issue and as an unknown model will never be worth a fraction of say a GT750,KH750 etc.Also modified or chopped about examples are being dragged out of sheds all over Europe and silly money is being asked.I recently looked at a Kawasaki Z900 that the owner was asking £8000 for and described as near showroom condition? Let me tell you £8000 more wouldn't have got it to showroom condition!
Still got the TZ350 I bought in 1982 for £900 and the Campag wheels I got for £120 a year later. GS1000 prices are starting to move and I'm hoping that Honda's 2 stroke race rep offering will follow the RD and RG reps. Wish I had accepted a mates offer in the late '80s of a straight swap - his Mk 5 RG500 racer for my TZ350. Another mate has still got his OW31 that he bought for £2k same time I got my 350, now that's done really well.
Lets ressurect this one but based on ducati only...... See how peoples opinions may of changes..... Personally off to see a 999s 2003. Less than 8k miles fsh mint next week at £6.5k - if it is what it says on the tin will be having a deal that day
