I went out today for a little spin, after about half an hour I realised my heated grips weren't working, so I pulled over and switched off when I flicked the kill switch back up the bike started without touching the button, Also it dosent matter if the grips are on low, medium or high, bugger all !!!!!! Any thoughts, the starter button seams to not want to come back out even if I press repeatedly !!!
Ha mine too, wondered why they didnt go back to the trip after I turned them on then realised it was stuck in. Now using it on the move is a two handed operation. No doubt that will also be my fault for have a cold garage
Can't believe it! it hasn't been out for ages ! First time put and another thing goes wrong!!!!!! Luckily it is only a GT .....the cheap one!
I've got a similar thing on my Hyperretard, but it has a key, obviously. When I turn the key to the on position, the bike starts without pressing the button.
Ah, this was what I forgot to do! I wanted to open up the instruments on the handlebars yesterday to grease up all the buttons as they like to stick or are a little tough to push. Like the kill switch slider, it's rough and often a pain when pulling it down.
Surely this is general maintainence. I was told early doors in my biking life to always squirt the switch gear after cleaning. It also takes about 3 seconds to do and none of my bikes have ever had sticking switches. Its not yet another swipe at Ducati is it. Just cos these are expensive it doesn't mean you can forget about general maintenance.
Mine started on its own the other day. Just thought it was another elecy gizmo on this expensive bike ;-)
No stab from me, just not owned a bike that did it, this is my 4th Ducati. Common sense to me, if something is being worn/sticky, then maintain it lol. I agree with you, you can't expect something to work perfectly maintenance free for it's life span. Jap bikes are no different.
I have owned bikes for over 30 years, and I pretty much know how to maintain them! After every ride I lube everything and spray silicone on all switches to protect and lube them it's also good for the plastics, for the last 15 years every bike I have owned has been brand new, so I know it's life! When you say surely this is general maintainence....er no it's shit switch gear that's probably not been sealed well, having the heated grips not work, the starter button stuck also means I can't change the suspension or riding modes or anything else on the clocks as the button controls the heated grips which are stuck to max. I have only done a few hundred miles on the bike and it's been back up to riders 3 x, which is a pain in the arse because I have to ride it up there which is an hour each way!
2500 miles, 4 months old, and needs to be lubed as it its 2 yrs old and 10k of hard miles? Yep its my fault. I dont know how I've lasted this long without these basic biking pearls, or have I have managed to own and keep running over 30 bikes in the last 30 years.
And if we are moaning, how about the start/stop flick switch which seems to need two pushes to get it back to the top, start, position. Ar poor maintenance, that will be it good job it rides so well, is pretty comfy (now I'm used to it) and starts on the button ( on its own ;-) ) when asked
My bike lives in a heated garage, with carpet, front and rear paddock stands and I have a dryer that gets it dry after washing, never use a power washer, just good old hand and sponge, acf to protect the metals , and silicon to protect the plastic and chain lube, as for poor maintainence can you tell me what else I need to do? Maybe just not ride it ! I could always get an old c50 with 50k on the clock!
I've had the odd problem with the switch gear, heated grips not working and unable to switch riding modes etc. Opened up the switches and cleaned out with electrical contact cleaner, dried out and lubed them up with silicon grease. Never had a problem since To be fair they are quite exposed to the elements when you see inside them, so not surprised that they suffer, especially if you ride in the wet a lot, or use a jet wash for cleaning
Our you could buy a pet dryer... much cheaper and just as good! Like I did http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2800W-Dog...1?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Dogs&hash=item258503a251 Or...... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Air-Force...rcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f18fee6cc
