Has any manufacturer improved on the Multi Decat pipes?

  1. Hi Andy, nice to have you back. You are quite correct and have rapped my own knuckles as a suitable punishment. I always get a little fratchy this time of year. Missing riding like hell and everybody seems to be on a downer about the bikes and I get dragged down with it all. Anyway, my yearly jaunt to France is now booked and I will post later all about it and get everybody giddy and wanting to plan again for the season.

  2. Thanks Neil......fratchy.....never heard that before but know exactly what you're saying! France....always good to have something to look forward to.

Not had time for forums etc for ages....lot of catching up to do!!!!

  3. Frshage, are you sure the full termi system comes wih an ecu ?
I thought they just reflashed the existing one now...

I have the QD system and it sounds superb. I would say it is probably a similar noise to my ST4S that had termi carbon cans (once told it sounded like a wellington bomber !:biggrin:)
I tried it with the db killer inserts and to be honest couldnt tell much difference, performance or noise wise.

  4. Yea, I think it's just a flashed stock ecu that comes with the kit.

I like the look of the long termi. All other brands just don't appeal to me. The ends of all of them are bigger than the actual diameter of the pipe. So it looks like a fake silencer slip on. If you catch my drift.

As far as I've seen. The termi is the only can where the diameter at the end of the can is true to the pipe.

  5. 2010/2012 new ecu,2013 onwards upmap,upmap is a little cheaper :upyeah:

  6. Which raises another question..........is the new Upmap system/ECU (2013 onwards) backwards compatible? I suspect not (not easily anyway.....i.e. specialist intervention required by the likes of CJS) as fuelling maps will be different (?.....motor tweaks, twin spark etc).

  7. No, the UP-map key does not work on 10-12' bikes. Confirmed on technical training at the factory :)

  8. Thanks for confirming that, I thought that was the case but what I was trying to clarify....just for the sake of knowing - is the 2013 actual ECU backwards compatible?

  9. Yes, I think so. I have not checked the part numbers, but it physically is the same Mitsubishi ECU.

  10. with the QD exhaust they recommend to use the rexxer system to update your ECU, which also enables you to completely reverse back to the original settings

the SC project exhaust looks really nice, but don't know if it is as good as the QD (for the 1200GS they have won a comparison test in Germany by Mottorrad (Auspuff-Vergleich BMW R 1200 GS (MOTORRAD 18/2013) - YouTube). it is definitely the cheaper solution (about 500 GBP for the full system with de-cat pipe), combined with a rexxer (about 250 GBP), you would still be much better off (price wise at least)...

  11. Thanks again Andreas.....I presume that the cable loom/ECU connector is modified then with an extra lead to the Upmap socket?
If anyone can post some decent photos that would be great ;-)

    By the way.....you have a PM ;-)

  12. The UP-map key is connected to the DDS diagnostic connector under the seat. So there are no physically differences between 10-12 and 13` MTS (besides dual spark, secondary air system and some other small details offcourse).

Yes, I have seen the PM! Will look at it later today :)

  13. Hi Chaps

I have placed an order on a new Multi Pikes this week can't wait!

I have a few questions please regarding the exhaust, could someone enlighten me please:

    1) I am planning on touring Europe including Switzerland, if I opt for a full system including de-Cat what are the legalities with regards to emissions and noise regulations outside of the UK as there are no emission regs on motorcycles?

    2) Apart from looking nice (mind you I think Ducati have done a good design job with the stock exhaust IMHO) and sounding better than the stock pipes - would anybody know how much more power a de-Cat full system would bring over the standard stock system?

    Thanks a lot everyone! Cheers!

  14. Welcome and congrats.
The full system doesn't really give much more top end power, but it makes the bike breath better, and therefore picks up much better.

We have been all over pretty much every country in mainland europe and not had a problem with any of them. That includes switzerland.
I was stopped in Germany last year (overtaking in a no overtaking zone - just as well he didnt see me a mile or so before !) and nothing was said about the pipes on my bike, or those on my mates R1.
Some of the full systems are VERY noisy, and you might have to be a bit careful around towns with those. The full termi is not one of those, its loud but not offensive.
I shall tell you how I get on with my decat'd Quat D system in a couple of months

  15. Thanks for your reply John.

Wow! Some real touring going on here! :)

I have now added the full Termi to my order!

Can I find out please did you have your full Termi system with the baffles in or out performance/torque wise is there a real world difference when having them in or out..?

    Cheers!

  16. Termi's with baffles ! noooooooooooooooooooooo
Ask the dealer to powdercoat the rear hanger for you,as they come in silver and need to be black for the pp.

  17. Lnd cruiser, I don't have the termi full system, a mate does. No idea if he as baffles in or out.
I bought a s/h QD system last year, which is superb, but a fair bit louder than the full termi. Putting the db killers in made bugger all difference IMO, so I took them out again :D
Another mate who I ride with regularly has the Leo vince. It has a different tone to the QD, and not quite as loud (IMO).

Yeah we do ~8k to 10k miles a year just on trips

  18. I hear you! Sorry what was that?? :D

PS: Any idea why the Ducati factory had chosen for the UK market for those rear hangers to be silver rather than black - on the Ducati UK website photo shoot they are black indeed. Odd. Anyway.

    Cheers.

  19. John, apart from the sound issue I am of course also or even more interested to get out as much as possible the 1200cc engine, they are quoting a 5% power increase with the full Termi.

I had a Dyno comparison run on my 899 with and without baffles on a full Tetmi; torque and power wise there was no difference at all to my surprise, what however did make a difference was the fact that the engine was a lot smoother at lower rpm's with the baffles in funny enough perhaps this has to do with the updated upMap to have been tuned for with baffles in only, could be..

    Keep those miles coming! :)
