Luggage options for Panigale?

Sportsbikes make the best touring bikes, and that's a bloody fact. Trouble is, as soon as you start adding luggage you turn it into a tourer. Don't bother, just throw a rucksack on your back and hit the twisties. Tailpacks work pretty well too, but don't get precious over it, any old tailpack will do.

 

I got a Ace Ventura Pet Detective rack for the 8-fordy-8 but aint tried it yet.

However, i can inform thee in the process of purchasing luggage that Kriega is the biz !!!

Have you ever toured on a sports tourer or tourer, "to say sports bikes make the best touring bikes" sounds like pure conjecture. I have toured on both sports tourers and a BMW 1200 RT. I could not ride with the associated and required luggage with a pillion on a sports bike for more than a day. I accept as a loner it would be possible with extremely limited luggage to tour, but not in comfort.

if sports bikes were the best touring bike nobody would buy tourers and clearly they do. I'm not selling my RT to buy a Panigale, I'm having both so I get the best of both worlds.

i will be fitting a Kriega day pack to the Panigale though.

 

It is to an extent. I've never ridden a touring bike for any great length, but I've owned and toured on 3 sports tourers, and they just don't get the job done in my opinion. On the other hand, I've toured on countless sportsbikes, and only one left me uncomfortable (Aprilia RSV Mille), while I've listened to many touring bike riders complaining of backache and arseache after a long run.

And whatcha gonna do with that leviathan when you get to the good roads? It ain't gonna suddenly transform itself into a moto3 bike. Modern touring bikes are getting better at handling twisty roads, but they're still a long way from ideal. They're okay if the destination is more important than the journey, but for me it's all about the journey.

 

You can tour on anything. I, like Figs, prefer to do it on a Sportsbike. If I wanted or valued comfort, I'd take my Saab. Rucky and tail pack for me. Light travel as the journey AND the destination is why I am on the bike in the first place. I want a sportsbike on those fabulous French roads and alpine race tracks.

 

these Kreiga packs look pretty good - do they fit without modification to the Panigale or are there other options?

 

My fisrt european trip was 1900 mls. Ferry from Ireland to France. I done it ona CBR400rr gull arm. Tent, tailpack & tank bag. My little bike laughed off all the bigger bikes.

Kreiga is excellent stuff. No mods needed. On my 1198 the tail pack just attaches via straps to the seat hump/rear seat. Alternatively you can use the same straps to attach it to the rucksack if you wish. All kreiga stuff works with each other. Its very well thought out. The rucksack is the most comfortable ive used at speed. They dont pull the shoulders.

 

I would totally agree re Kriega tail pack I purchased one when I had my Blade, tried it on the Pan last night, I'll be using it. Great product and incredibly practical. My seat cowl arrived - at last - today. I can't believe at the age of 44 how excited I still get when these accessories arrive. I'm even looking forward to taking it out of the packaging it was delivered in!! I'm even worse out of season!!
