View attachment 3037 The one i'm looking at is the 888 styled one.. The rear around the light is smaller to give it a sharper look View attachment 3035
All electrics done apart from a reg rec unit. The ST2 one is different from the 2 phase SS. The gen produces 440watts and not the 350w of the SS gennys. Oh and the st2 ones are like rocking horse shite!
Replace it with a MOSFET reg from a Kawasaki or Yamaha, there are lots of posts about it on Ducati.ms. I just did it to my ST2, it was simple even for a numpty like me. I wired the output straight back to the battery, and the reg is much better than the shite ST2 unit!
Hi Stretta, Thanks very much for the info. http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...utigAw&usg=AFQjCNH9d8SKA2_RE_2r6dNYvLqvWGPUIA
i HAVE ONE OF THOSE ON THE st NOT USED JUST MOCKED UP TO SEE IF IT WORKED OK DAMN cap lock!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Just spotted this one Steve, and not a million miles from you either. DUCATI 600/750/900SS HEADLAMP WITH BULBS | eBay looks like they are breaking a bike as quite few SS parts being listed
Ducati 1992 851 special is nearly mine  So lots of SS bits will be up for sale. Did i mention 851
Don't tell Grandad! I want to surprise Him!! problem is at his age he will no doudt piss himself with shock!
Now a proud owner of a 1992 851 minus a few bits and odds and sods. Oh and a engine!! but we have a plan
Just phoned Mr R (grandad) and told him! Well chuffed apart from his cold etc! Confirmed ST2 bottom end will work with 916 cyls and heads 916 pistons and rods. He also reckoned with the 2mm longer stroke will not cause a problem with the 1.6 ecu using a 916 chip
Did the old git pee himself? good news on the parts all fitting together I was sure they would have been looking into it myself good news on the chip is he still on with that cold? regards Steve b
Are you binning this project? I was looking forward to seeing some more progress! What magic is happening with the ST2 engine?
As per post's above i have found a 851/888 part restored bike. I have been dreaming of a 851/888 for age's and by luck i have bought one! The 900ss/st2 is no more......... The 851 is minus a engine so after consulting Mr R it is possible to fit 916 top end also using 916 conrods on the st2/900ss crank. so it will be a 4v 944cc. oil ways for the 2v can be plugged off using grub screws in the crank case face.
