Hi guys! Just about to fit a termignoni to my 749s. Have also just got hold of a power commander but I'm worried about running lean and destroying my bike anyone got one and can offer any words of advice. Mike
If you spend just a little bit more money you can get your current ECU re-mapped without needing to have a Power Commander.
Sorry, I didn't read your first post properly. I have no idea about the power commander, but if you look at this site... CJS RACING Ducati Cylinder Heads Tuning Gas Flow Dyno ECU Custom Mapping Bristol Bath he explains the advantages of an ECU remap over a PC. However, you already have the power commander and I'm sure someone will be able to provide you with a decent map. Have you tried asking on other Ducati forums? I'm on here a lot and Power Commanders don't get mentioned very much.
Most tuners will make a map for you on the Power Commander, or like Tom says you can get one from someone else. If I were you I'd pay the £150 and get it Power Commander mapped for the bike/Termi set up. chris at CJS isn't a fan of Power Commanders but when I showed him the power graph of my 1098 he said it was better than anything he has done with a 1098 (163.3RWBHP and 94 ftlbs of torque) so maybe the Power Commander has it's place?
or the dyno was ……….er…a little optimistic….they do do that... unless you are going to compare it on the same dyno one after the other then a red line on a bit of paper is…..just a red line..
not so much about the accuracy of any individual dyno as long as you stick with the same one you can do comparisons…a figure from one place compared to a figure from another is a waste of time... now the honesty of some dyno operators and the truth of the numbers is another thread..
in my humble opinion any piggy back system is old hat now they had their place perhaps 10 years ago but technology has moved on with the biggest thing with Ducatis is the adjustability of the std ecu…...
one more question....if i install the PC to the bike and get a map made for the PC....could i switch back to standard map by just disconnecting the PC?
If you remove the PC you'll be back to the map stored on the standard ECU, but that won't run too good with the Termi fitted... You'd want to either get the DP performance ECU (which should have come with the Termi half-system?) OR get the stock ECU remapped, OR run the mapped PC on top of the stock ECU. I wouldn't be running the stock ECU with the Termi myself - better to refit the stock exhaust. Cheers, Dom
So, you might make more money when selling the bike by returning it to stock and selling the PC and Termi separately... Or you might not. Hard to know! Point is, you can't sell on your remapped stock ECU, and refitting the stock exhaust to sell the Termi separately would be kind-of harsh once you've remapped it... if you see what I mean?
Personally I went down the CJS route of mapping the ECU, the termi should have an ECU with it (or did when new) so I used that and kept the original untouched. Power Commanders are good and server a purpose but I'm lead to believe they are a little more limited in the extent that you can map e.g. Not as easy/flexible to fine tune. There isn't a right or wrong way, with my 749s with a 57mm 2-1-2 kit CJS got over 115bhp at the rear wheel. I'm happy
+1 The next money I spend on the 999s will be to get the ECU mapped at CJS - hopefully in the spring if Chris is not already booked up for months...
I had a pc and termis on my old 999s and it made a huge difference. The bike felt fine as it was but I got it mapped after a year of running the bike on standard map or whatever it was but on getting it mapped the bike was much smoother and it pulled much better throughout the range and had more low down torque. Definatly worth doing
This is miss information and not re-interpreted how it should be . That is good (dyno power) But that does not go to say you will not gain from a real remap. Power commanders will always be down a few hp on an ecu remap because power commanders cannot change spark advance , injector timing and and and . Dynos do all read differently , They all use different correction factors . Come put it on mine and we will be able to do a fair comparison
