Hi all. Can anyone help me please. I'm trying to convert my 06 749 biposto to a monoposto and was not sure if I need the monoposto sub frame or I could fit the single seat and faring unit to my original biposto sub frame? I've managed to locate the seat and faring unit of the monoposto but struggling with the sub frame. Any info would be much appreciated.
I was under the impression that a mono seat unit required a mono sub frame and the biposto needed a biposto subframe. But I could be wrong.
Bip subframe is made of steel and is longer that the mono one. You will need a Mono subframe, Mono subframe also allows for the whole seat & tank to be adjusted back and forth within 3 settings. Mono subframe is alloy and the weight difference is really quite something.
Ok guys. Thank for the replies. That picture of the two sub frames together is a great help. Thanks a lot.
I have a ducati performance desmocedeci style seat cowl that fits biposta converting to single seat. In red with numberboards c/w fitting kit instructions and box.
This is all interesting stuff for me because I have the reverse problem. I am in the market for a biposto and looking round I see more accessible (ie less than 50 as opposed to 250 miles away ) monos on the market... have considered converting if the right bike comes up (would particularly like a yellow bip if possible ) Now I have a clearer idea of what's involved , thanks. Having said that I haven't got an inexhaustible budget so in the end will compromise on colour - but the wife will be more than upset if I compromise with the tandem seating.
Can you convert a Mono to a Bip? I know physically it can be done but is a rear spring on a Bip more heavy duty than a Mono as it has to potentially take the weight of two passengers as opposed to one, or are the springs the same?
Its just the reverse of doing the mono. Parts are a BIP subframe and seat units. The front part that fixes to the seat pad is not interchangeable with the mono so its the whole seat unit. The spring is the same but you do have a point regarding spring weight and any race workshop can sort this if you feel the need. Its not really necessary and its probably easier to simply buy another shock with better damping if you are track minded. I had K-Tech set my bike up and it transformed it from being skitty and nervous over bumps into one that isnt
Have you thought about maybe purchasing a seat cowl that will cover the passenger seat. You can get some nice carbon ones painted in red black or yellow. Much cheaper option and you always have the option of having the passenger seat
Its on my 'to do' too. From Bip to Mono in red, would be prepared to do a swap on the rear subframe only and wait for the right plastics to come along. Just thought I'd put that out there.
Hi moo I have a red biposto seat conversion for sale, (subframe, front seat pad, rear plastics, pillion pegs, everything for the conversion). I'm in Hertfordshire if that's good for you. Let me know if you're still in need of one? Paul
