I might be getting wound up over nothing but last week MCN tested the new blade against its rivals and did some speed testing, the first thing I noticed was all the bikes were about 10mph on top speed slower than last time they tested them. This is the same publication that said they got 179mph out of a gsxr 750 but now they can't manage that on a 1000! Anyway what really pissed me off is this weeks letter of the week where some clown has wrote in saying how come the fireblade has gotten slower! Did the muppet not realise they all have? It seems to me MCN has tried to make the blade look bad when they clearly haven't tested the bikes properly.
it generally annoys me tbh, I go on the website sometimes and they are either A) Using racers tweets and re-hashing them as a news article (to be fair a few sites are doing that stuff) or B) The website is clunky and full of adds or C) They 'tease' and hold stuff back to try and sell more copies on a wednesday.
Its the Daily Mail of the motorcycling world. It must be tiring getting up on that high horse all the time....and all to shift a few papers.
lol....you're not alone  Anyway, I enjoy MCN. All journo's have an opinion, you're not gonna agree with them all. If you dont like it, dont buy it. There are articles I read that I didnt agree with over the yrs but still...its their opinion nothing more. Take from reviews what you will. That article from last week, i will read it on Fri ( we're heading to a country hotel for a couple of days for some food & R&R ) & let you know what I think of it. In MCN's defence, Id say there are a few publications which have contradicted themselves over the yrs.
I think that the more popular name 'More Crap then News' tells you all you need to know. I even buy real toilet paper now instead.
Don't get me wrong I still look forward to it every week for most of it, I just found that massively annoying that they seemed to support someone suggesting Honda are deliberately making the bikes slower who was using their dodgy data as evidence.
Never bought it for four years or so now . Used to have it delivered but just couldnt stand the contradictions. One years bike of the year would be the worst bike ever in a few years time . That coupled with overbearing journalists spouting crap put me off it .
Surely that's the point of their website Phil. As it's free, it's sole purpose is going to be used for this. They could move to a pay site and give the same content as the printed version I suppose.
The things I like about it are it's up to date compared to the magazines but I don't like it for the bike tests. I find fast bikes and performance bikes seem to be best if you want to compare bikes.
Irritating, yes. Poor and inaccurate reviews, yes. Stopped reading ages ago as there always seemed to be some negative vibes about the future of biking and our freedom. Plus..yesterdays dog was todays best buy. All praise one week then 'oh its a bag o shit' the week after. Basically they undermine themselves by printing contradicting information on a frequent basis. I did find a use for it at my last house, perfect for lighting the fire!
Yeah I think so, I do just about remember when we looked forward to a Wednesday because u got all the updates, but there are so many websites doing it now for free and it's available at an instant. Crash.net for example used to be good however recently there ads have got completely ridiculous!!!
I don't find it irritating at all. I always buy a copy when I'm mooching from one country to another. Some people, like most of the ^ above, seem to get wound up over fuck all. I, on the other hand, take neither myself or life too seriously. No one gets out alive y'know.... Now go and buy a copy of MCN ya tight assed know it all fucks!!
I buy it for the race reports and general info about what race teams/ factories and riders are up to . Its more often than not reasonably correct . I like a weekly rag about motorcycles , where else to do you get that , I'd miss it if it wasn't there to pick up and read . Sometimes the missus will throw it away before Ive read the normal non race stuff and I don't care , if she chucked it out before that though I'd be ogre-ish.
I knew there was something else.... That's right, its good for all the race reports during the season.
Last weeks one had a feature on the Multistrada- old and new. They only mentioned ONE issue with the 1200!!!! No mention of crap water logged clocks, acid coolant or non functioning rear brake. On a bike costing so much what are they afraid of saying?
Mcn got a little ................" you can get ya knee down " blah blah " did we mention its good at getting your knee down" and so on and so forth .....a little bit track focused , but i would still buy it to find out technical details of bikes and new technology and stuff . if i wanted to find a review on a bike i would always look for anything by the late Kevin Ash ....... always found his write ups balanced and covering everything of a certain bike .......not just how fast it is and if you can get yerr knee down . If there was faults or design issues he said it how it was ........ no crawly crawly bum licking to the manufactures so they dont get upset ......like Ducati side stands that drop the bike on its side if you sneeze near it , a full review ......handeling , power , delivery , weather protection , fit and finish , quality , tank range , fuel consumption ......the full hit A sad loss .
