Ok so a technical thread ….exhaust!!

  1. some of you may know i have a slightly modded 748R…. one of the mods has been the street fighter swing arm modded to the 1098 RS corse length along with the ttx shock. Now this is a beefy swing arm particularly near to the part on a 748 where the twin exhausts go up inside the right heel.

Now i got around this using a modded 1098 70mm system (which is really 57mm for the majority) but it is a 2 into 1 into 2. Previously i had had the 998 mag swing arm and a rare inconel 57mm system but at nearly £2000 worth of old exhaust it was something of a risk damaging on my measly budget which is why i went to the 1098 system £400 and a bit of welding.

i have always harped after the 998 look again so i set about seeing if i could make a 60mm one for a reasonable price……...

there is a dealer in America selling new 60mm termignoni exhausts parts including the all important join section which is quite a complicated join of pipes…and i got this for a cheeky 130 quid.Any way some 60mm 1.2 mm mandrel bends and pipe later plus about 2 months as i wanted to get the shape correct plus i bought a TIG welder too, I'm quite pleased with the result...

plus for bradders……..the power is up ….

  8. A technical thread on this forum. Good lord what ever next

  9. so its 60mm complete system with the larger size thigh guard from bursi i saw the 63mm system on the F02 had the seat cut to clear the guard and 748 style lower heel guard rather than the rear set mounted one the cans are the bigger Ti ones 450mm long with 60mm through the silencer...

    now do i polish it….

  10. I've seen the pictures post 90 degree out before…….did anyone sort out why?

  11. Great stuff Andy - that looks really good, and an amazing bargain!

  12. it was quite interesting stuff as i followed the shape of the original/standard exhaust primary pipes and was amazed that i was able to get them to the join section equalling the same length and volume of pipe…plus I've got the lambda plug holes in the same place and some gucci stainless plugs that i have also cross drilled so i can lock wire them in...

price wise the pipe wasn't too expensive around a tenner a bend……although finding 60mm in 1.2 was harder than i thought loads of 63.5 and 57 about…….finally found a company not too far away called goodfab they make racing stuff and roll their own pipe including the inconel stuff that has a wall thickness of 0.5mm………..their web site is worth a look see…. they had a box of "sub standard' to F1 spec bends they let me sift through the stuff was perfect for me….

then it was a question of working the angles to get the route i wanted and the look of a termi system…(ironically two ex usb systems have appeared on ebay circa £1500 each) the trick is to get the cuts and joints square so the weld is easier tack away refit for check and then finally weld them up after purging the whole pipe with argon……this gives a much better smoother internal weld…….

  13. May mean you'll join us in the fast group now then. Eh ;-)

Nice work. You do the bending and welding yourself? Something else you can teach me, as well as to ride ;-)

  14. Nice job. If i'd heard of it before you started you could've borrowed my 60 Akrapovic system to get all the measurements from. Biggest difference i can see is the Akra doesn't have the pipes crossing over under the seat unit like, well, every other system available really.
Looks like you've done a cracking job without though, wish i had your skills. :upyeah:

  15. Good job that , I've just bought a welder , makes me want to have a go.
Is the reason the pics are the wrong way around because you've used your iphone height ways instead of holding it like a camera horizontally.

  16. oooh………the pics come up the correct way in my saved folder on the computer...

  17. the bends are already done i did the TIG welding on the pipe work…….the ducati 60mm link pipe is MIG done by them….

  18. That looks really nice, well done, must have taken a lot of patience.
My daughter works for an exhaust company making exhausts for 30% of the F1 grid and every Nascar on the grid among many others. They have just purchased a bending machine for the Inconel which is estimated to save £600,000 in waste materials in the first year.
