I've only had my 1000ss for about 6 weeks. One of the first things i did was replace the plugs with the ngk's recommended, but with barely 500 km's on them the horizontal one on the right is pitch black (not sure about the other side). The only mod I know of is that the stock baffles have been removed. Any suggestions? Cheers.
Thanks Lumbux. Spark seems very strong. Plug gaps are around .65 - .7mm. Checked the other LH horizontal plug, and that too is fouled?
A fair price for fixing the problem Sev! I had this sort of problem with mine, my LMS had given me the wrong plugs and I should have checked, took my 4 years to relies, 7 carb strips/rebuilds and some help from Al to get it sorted. The first set of plugs would go black, clean put back and go black again, would never idle with them in, went and got another set (with the right numbers on) and problem solved. The rear cylinder plug is darker brown than the front, but I know the tappets need doing and it needs a run on the dyno to set the carbs up properly. Could be something else though as I always say I've been wrong in the past!!
As its injected has the fueling been adjusted to match the gutted cans, also how many miles has this bike done? favourite failure item is the temp sender that reports back to the ecu.
You need to get the fueling checked if it has been modded at the very least, exhaust mods do affect the fuel ratio in strange ways. if you are in the midlands i would reccomend SPR Racing, nottm 0115 9216958, i am sure other forum members could help for other areas. I would still go for the temp sender.
