Ducati 749 R 749R WITH DAY TIME MOT LIKE 999 998 916 748 | eBay Thoughts? Has it been thrashed to within an inch of it's life? Clocks read low, obviously a track bike. Maybe fitted with a Digitek dash and hence the mileage difference? Illegal to sell misrepresented? Carbon fibre fairing is gone, as are the lights. Comes with a Leo Vince system and cheap chinese fairings. What do you think? Value?
Great if you want it as a track bike. Not great if you want to go spunking loadsa money making it back to OEM. Hard to say on the miles as it would be difficult to prove if the speedo has been disconnected at some point. It look a Leo Vince end can not a full system. £4k would be a nicer number
even 4k seems steep to me, considering the carbon fairing is off and its obviously been tracked... it's a completely unknown entity in regards to engine condition etc. Also, the fairing is barely held on. On the zoomed in picture you can see that the bolt that fixes the upper fairing to the nose fairing is missing.
Course its obviously been tracked its a track bike  Its not being advertised as a beauty queen.
I think it's probably been low-sided on a trackday/road and smashed the headlight mount and fairing and that's the best way to get it up together to sell it. I think if it was a serious trackbike/racebike, you would see evidence of lockwiring and things like the rear swingarm adjusters would be scuffed and worn due to wheel changes, likewise the Rims are likely to have lots of paint scuffs around them.
It's not the fact that it has been on a track, so much as that if it was a pure track bike for a long time the gear box and engine are going to have had a very stressed life. It's the engine I want more than anything.
I gave him a call and there is no movement on the price. Not to £4500 any way, so I left it. It annoys me that a bike with clocks that are clearly wrong is still advertised as true.
It's a 10 year old bike, so 100miles (ish) per year. Castle Coombe as an example is 1.85miles in length. 54 Laps of Castle Coombe per year, for 10 years. That's 1 or 2 track days? On a bike that has a Leo Vince end can, so some investment. It would have needed new belts every year plus new oil etc. And it's an R. That's a lot of money to invest in a bike (assuming it was one owner throughout) to hardly use it. I would imagine if one had enough money to burn it all on a 749R when they were new then they would have enough money/time to do more than 2 track days per year or at least ride it on the road. I reckon it's had new clocks, a crash and is a bit dodgy for a road bike. I may well be wrong, I would just be surprised, that's all. It's just a bit off to advertise at the low mileage if there is suspicion of it being false. I guess the fault would lie with the original seller rather than the shop. It's also fitted with slicks rather than road legal tyres.
The 998 biposto he has doesn't seem any better on price either. I notice his eBay feedback is 1, not a volume seller then!!!
Could have spent the first part of its life as an expensive ornament, Saying its not correct mileage is a serious accusation as its a serious offence usually ending in a Prison sentence. I know someone how has a 2008 911 GT3 RS with 1500 miles on it! Sits in his 6 car garage on an optimate MASSIVE WASTE
I am only speculating on the mileage of that bike, should anyone on the internet come along and take offence. Still looks dodgy though.
This is also annoying.... Ducati 749 Biposto, though set up a monoposto, 2006 , 12000,plus miles | West Dunbartonshire | Gumtree £2700 on here... 2006 Ducati 749 Stunning Lovely Bike | eBay £5000 on here. I guess someone bought it to immediately sell. Annoying.
