  2. Only way to know if its not genuine mile is doing mileage checks but if nothing turn out untoward then it has to be taken as genuine.

Mine has 19k miles on the clock but the new to me engine has only covered about 8k. My service book is stamped to 16k.

  3. If it has a daytime MOT and has been MOT'd before any previous mileages should be shown. Mine are from my MOT in October last year.

  4. I believe this bike is the same one that was on eBay middle of last year for a buy it now of 10k initially  I got the impression the seller had no clue what he had. It stayed on for that sort of money for months. Someone has obviously enlightened him, bought it and is now selling it. It's still as it was back then, including the slick tyres (mot?) so I doubt it's turned a wheel in anger for a while.

Something not quite right about it.

  5. i would say an engine that has been revved and used even on a track is as good if not better than an engine that hasn't got warm but minced up to box hill and back once or twice a month….

  6. you should be the next Chelsea manager..

  7. A tracked motor will wear faster by the nature of its use. I'd rather have something in the middle, or the Box Hill motor and give it a good service

  8. Isn't the seller of the 749r, where all the "we buy any bike" stock gets sold on.

As for the £5k 749 in Scotland, good luck to the seller, but I've not seen anything but the cleanest original face lift 749s go for much more than £3.5k for some time.

  9. Check MOT trail.

Its not the full system - so technically not spent all that.

As for speedo reading, yes, it could have had speedo unplugged, which tbh isn't all that uncommon.

However, if you are interested, go view the bike. Wheels are best sign to see wear.

  10. The wheels are all chipped. That can be seen in the photos

  11. As for the 5k bike, the original seller got back to me and told me it sold last week for is asking price.

The new seller told me he'd had it for ages, that the belts didn't need doing for 1600 miles (the original seller specified it was due a big service this year) that his friend had put the ad on gumtree but ballsed it up. Complete balls.

  12. the one minced to box hill that doesn't really get warm get oil around, gets over fuelled on cold start gets bore washing gets extra wear………...

  13. isn't that a footballist thing…………now we are talking tossers….

  14. wait til you let some monkey at a track day change your tyres…..

  15. You don't really believe that do you...? So one warmed in the pitlane runs leaner at start up than one warmed on a driveway before a pootle to Box Hill, and hence suffers less bore washing.....really??.... Fuel injection is cleverer than I thought!

  16. the engine on track is much more likely to be working at proper temperature warmed up in the pit lane is under minimal load………..warmed up and minced to box hill before its truly warm and it never really gets completely to working temp are two different things...

  17. Not taking sides Nutty or Andy as I really don't know much about mechanicals, so more looking for opinion / explanation as my bike would probably fall more into the bimbling about rather than track day blasting. But am I really damaging it - I'm no Rossi but I try to push on as best as i can (bike always warmed up before pulling away) and on occasions the thing seems hotter than Krakatoa on a bad day - surely normal riding (so long as its more than just 10 mins) is perfectly fine?
Looking much more for education / advice rather than an argument - last thing I need is to screw up my pride and joy.
    Cheers any thoughts.

  18. I'm sure you'll be fine it doesn't hurt to warm the bike up first rather than ride straight off…..i was more against the comment that just because the one in question has done its miles on track that it would be knackered……when that might not necessarily be true…….

  19. Just thought also - apols to original poster - gone way off topic!!
