  1. Cool - makes sense.
    Thx.

  2. Doesn't bother me! I'm not buying it any way, the guy won't drop lower than £4850 and I'm not willing to pay that much for it.

  3. Did i read somewhere you just wanted the engine………why not get a 999 engine or there is that modded one on ebay for a really simple price…….its for sale by someone who does come on here and is know to everyone here………instant 150 160 hp…..

  4. Is it yellow?

  5. can't find it now……it was for sale by desmophil i believe...

  6. I can't find it either. Time to give up.

I'm still considering the benefits of an engine blueprint and whether or not to go 999 barrels and Pistal pistons on the rebuild.

The barrels and pistons push it in to 1098 engine money any way, but I want to stick with the 749 engine and race system.

Plenty of time to consider this one.

  7. 2006 DUCATI 749 bip STUNNING
    www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/2006-ducati-749-bip-stunning/1047159526

This appears to be the same bike previously mentioned. Sold for £2600 on gumtree, then on eBay for £5000, now on Gumtree again for £4000 but with the biposto seat fitted instead of the mono that it was sold with originally.

The bloke lied to me, was generally dodgy and tried to conceal the bikes history.

  8. i would just get a 999 engine……..for starters…….. its not worth pissing about with 749 engine with 999 barrels….. OR, there is a 1198s engine on there…. and i know where to get a ready made 1198 to 999 airbox section

  9. Chummy in Glasgow with the £2.7k now £5k 749 is now trying his luck with a 'no reserve' auction (as obviously nobody was daft enough to cough up £5k for his pride and joy).

I saw this before I read your comments Tom and decided to get my bargepole out on this particular seller.

There are so many pointers in his text, photos and Ebay record that say 'avoid'

Any bets that he will torpedo the auction if it fails to reach £3.7k???

  10. I spoke to both sellers. The original seller at £2600 was a nice guy. It's the next chap that was a sneaky get.

The original seller specified that it needed a big service this year. No mention of that from seller no2.

  11. I had seen those 1198/999 air boxes somewhere but cant for the life of me remember where.

  12. Maybe its been serviced at Topps Tiles?!

  13. The original bike I posted about appears to have been sold, so someone has paid the asking price for it. The 2004 Carbon 749R in Essex has re-appeared after a week missing.

  14. The bike in Glasgow, the 2006 Biposto, ends today. It currently stands at £2750. It's in need of a big service, according to the original seller but not identified by the second.

I'm glad the bugger is learning his lesson, he was asking 5k originally!

  15. My 04 999R has only about 3000 miles from new, been tracked. Some people don't do big milage as like me, have a few bikes and even if you do a few track days a year it doesn't clock up big milage.

As for wear, road versus track, I am sure track is harder in most cases! i keep below 10500.

That said mine are always warmed correctly and I do not over rev them. Revs kill engines (along with many other things!), if I do a few hundred track miles on my bike it gets an oil change and generally looks as good as it went in!

Mine is still for sale to a good home but not as cheap as those advertised!
