had unlock error appear on the multi dash today then it shut down and said the steering was locked when it clearly was`nt , you could move the bars left to right with ease. after much head scratching trying to understand what it ment and repeating the start sequence wiggling the bars nothing.after several cups of tea i attacked the steering lock mech. with a hair dryer and after 5 mins of heat everthing worked and i was able to start the thing. is the steering lock tempreture sensitive? it was 3 degrees when i 1st tryed.
What year is your MTS? If it is a 10-12' you can go to your dealer ans ask for a handsfree system software update. This program the system to work as on the 13-14' bikes.
What exactly is this / does it do? I presume not a standard recall/update, is it worth getting done anyway?
There was a problem with the switches and actuator for the lock. They did a software update so it ignores the switches (I think). Part of the original issue reported with steering locks was people trying to unlock with the locking pin under tension. Taking pressure off the lock made it work just fine. Neither of these sound like the issue pigpenn is experiencing though. Why it would think it is Locked when it wasn't is odd.
The software upgrade causes the 2 prong switches (like plastic lobster claws): one either side of the steering pivot point, to be ignored! So you move the bars to full left or right lock and wait for the pin to fire out and ignore the normal operating message that comes up on the round dash dial. Mines been done and that's what happens on my 11 plate. I've had no problems since.
Do you still have to hold the red switch down during this?? Mine recently got "updated" at a Service and now I have to hold the red switch down until well past the point that it starts saying "switch still down, release red switch" before it locks. A bit crap in my view - as I had no problems before. WHo writes software where you have to do something that will prompt an error, and ignore that error, before it functions as expected?? Only in Italy
SPL in answer to your question; yes, you do need to hold down the red switch! Welcome to Ducati electrics  or lack of if it all goes P.T. (Pete Tong).
You also have to press the light switch in your living room to make the light come on... I do not see the problem?
Yeah, but you don't have to stand there holding it for 30 seconds while your telly keeps flashing a message that says "let go of the switch you dummy"
steering lock lock/handsfree thingy is still working ok have actually used the steering lock for the 1st since buying it and squirted some wd40 on the pin is it best to a use the steering lock all the time or 2 leave it alone
Mines been sat for a few months on an optimate, I think at one stage it was turned off, this has led to the DTC off messages but also steering lock error, I’ve disconnected the battery for 5 mins & GT85 Ed the mechanism- any other ideas? No pressure on pin, red switch is very sticky. Also had some gt85.
Wow, this is an old thread you revived Is yours the early or DVT Multistrada ? The early ones tended to have issues, but not the DVT's
