Calling all qd lads, i need help

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by ojobear, Jun 26, 2012.

  1. Gents, on with fitting the QD but have hit a snag. The cable that fools the system regarding error message sails past the bracket on the QD pipes by about 3 inches. As you know it is in a metal sheath and does not look like it can be simply bent or shoved out of the way. Have contacted QD and they are stratching there heads. Any ideas please.

  2. Pictures?

  3. as you can see the sheeth sailspast the welded bracket. it is steel so it wont bend.

  4. Tuck the cable up into the engine recess to shorten it?
    Another QD fail.
Don't bother asking them for help either, they'll tell you that they've never had this before so they aren't interested in fixing it, but it's OK, they're Italian so you should accept it.

  5. Did you have to do this Triple?

  6. No, I had my exhaust valve disabled by CJS Tuning.

  7. I think I shall be passing on the QD exhausts given the trouble you two seem to be having with them.

Frankly I'm fed up of reading your derogatory comments about Italians, which I find quite offensive. If Italians are so bad, instead of Ducati and QD you should buy something else.

To the point, I wonder what exactly has QD got to do with the fact that the valve cable sticks out abnormally.Obviously I assume you have tried to switch on the bike, with the error message on the dash. The cable then gets "pulled in", so to speak. I bought my QD from the Italian Multistrada forum, together with many other guys. I have never heard of this problem before, nor has it been reported on that forum or any other forum, as far as I know. The ultimate solution is a trip to Bristol to see Chris at CJS to disable the valve, you may want to remap anyway.

  9. Gazdoc, I think you're missing the point a little.... The guys are fully entitled to say that they have experienced problems when installing their systems, just as you are entitled to say that you have had none and heard of none. It's called opinion.

I've spoken to Manuel at QD, seems a nice enough guy. He says that there should be no problem so, when my exhausts arrive and are fitted on the 11th, I'm expecting no problems. However, some people HAVE had problems.

Now, what should I do? Believe you? Believe the others? Well, I should make my own mind up, which is what I did. And I decided to buy the QD's.

Will I have problems? Who knows...probably not. If so, I shall say so. Likewise if I DO have problems. Although in that instance I will talk to the importer and Manuel.

Regarding the point about the comments concerning cultural differences, that's what they are. It's a different view on what is "important". To Tripletrouble and Ojobear, and perhaps others, the issues they have experienced are important. To others, including perhaps QD, they are less so. The Italian/Latin way (generally) is to look at things more positively, so instead of worrying about the missing 5%, they enjoy the good 95%. In that context, saying "ah, but they are Italian" isn't derogatory and insulting.

I will concede though, that it is how YOU interpret it.... Back to those "opinions" again!

For what its worth, I've had no trouble with QD.

Ojobear, you may want to fit a spring and then tuck the cable up behind the rear cylinder. That's what I did for my Mivv decat, and it works well. I can't post a picture from my iPad, but I've posted it somewhere here already I think, so I'll see if I can find it and then post a link.

  10. When I fitted my QD's i tucked the metal sleeve up behind the frame iirc - it's never budged from there and the cable operates fine-

If I get the chance I'll take some pics and try and upload tomorrow if you want?

  11. Gaz, if you read my QD exhaust thread you'll see that I'm simply paraphrasing what others have said.

  12. Yes, that's it....that's what I did....worked fine. No problems in 7k miles...

  13. Done 7k on the QD's too, and no problems here either (touch wood!)

  14. Soon Bob, soon.... I only get the QDs fitted on the 11th, so I have to wait a little longer.... Can't wait though... :upyeah:

  15. Ah right, my mistake.....btw I didn't need to make any mods to the exhaust valve cable for the QD's though - just tucked it up behind the frame as it was.

  16. Nah, no worries..... My exhaust valve cable mod was for the Mivv decat.... Anyway, it's in part because of you and Boomer that I decided to go for the QDs... So thank you very much for telling me about your experiences. I just have to be a little more patient... ;-)

  17. Oh and a public health warning to QD kitted beasts and with the DB killers removed....earplugs in!

  18. Yes indeed - tried mine with baffles removed for a while. Mate who was following me said it was ridiculous! Couldn't even hear his own bike! :)

  19. Mine should be ready to fire up this afternoon. Taken out all baffles. This could be quite an experience!!!!!!!!!!
