Anyone know a good tyre shop in surrey area, or home counties, the Bike needs new tyres quite soon, the OE fitted ones are becoming a bit entertaining in the wet, especially the back, would also consider a 2nd hand pair if someones upgrading as I have had no issues with the Scoprpions
Contact Micheldever Tyres.....distributor for most of the major tyre outlets and often the best prices available through their tyre fitting centres - ProTyre Micheldever Tyre & Auto Services - Contact us
On my second set of Pilot Road 3's..............can't fault them, as good or better than any tyres I've used over the years. Do some searches, you'll be hard pressed to find anyone saying anything different (lots of tyre related discussions! ). I've seen similar feed back on the Metzeler Z8's......which came on the market later than the PR3's
+ 1 for both Micheldever and Metzlers. Shortly to rag a set of Racetech Interact K3s which are a road legal endurance tyre on a 748R. Andy
Ok, quick search on 'tyres'....... http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/tyre-leader-19008/ http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/eternal-tyre-question-15863/ http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/new-pr4-folks-17639/ http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/michelin-pilot-power-3s-short-distance-commuting-questions-16234/ http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/dunlop-sportsmart-tyres-15141/ http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/tyre-wear-14626/ http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/not-balancing-rear-wheel-11489/ http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/bridgestone-t30-tyres-14584/ http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/tyre-average-mileage-14269/ http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/chicken-strips-13986/ http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/pirelli-angel-gt-11924/ http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/tyres-12327/ http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/pr3-tyre-pressures-5332/ ....and that just covers the last 6 months or so!! I think there are a few people here abouts that need to take a look at this! (not a dig at OP;-) http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/mts-forum-info-feedback-suggestions-comments-1858/#post32792 ...watch the vid!
These aren't local but they do a good deal, possibly one of the best around. Motorcycle Tyres - FWR LTD - Britain's Cheapest Tyres!
I use FWR in Kennington. Pain but their cheap. Motorcycle Tyres - FWR LTD - Britain's Cheapest Tyres! Red998 beat me to it
^^^ I believe they do tyres by courier, so you might be able to save a few quid by having them posted and finding a cheap fitter, if you know one.
Could try Mike at Mobile Motorbike Tyre Fitting and Scooter Tyre Fitting and car tyre fitting in South London, Surrey and West Kent from Rubber Ranch. Mobile motorcycle tyres. Mobile Scooter tyres. Mobile car tyres. Motorcycle puncture repairs. Motorbike puncture repa comes to you and does the fitting, balancing etc. Not always the cheapest but knows his stuff and a home visit is sometime worth it. +1 for PR3's wont be long before I get to try the PR4's !
If you're prepared to go to Mitcheldever, I'd suggest venturing a little further south to Tyres-R-Us 02380 618823. Been going to Mathew at Tyres are us for years, and he is usually even better than Mitcheldever, plus he takes a bit more care. You will need to phone and order, as he doesn't have a huge amount of stock, but he can usually get them next day so no big deal. Drop the bike in and wander 10 mins down the road for a coffee then pop back later and pick it up. P.S. Probably worth confirming he has the socket for your rear before travelling - first time I went in it stumped us, but I'm sure he'll have got one by now (I always take loose wheels these days so never had to worry about getting the wheel off onsite).
I use a proper old school independent, price is usually keen enough and more importantly they take care of your bike and tighten everything up properly.
Warning Talking of tightening thigs up properly.....forks/spindle pinch bolts!!!! http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/***-warning-***-read-potentially-lethal-front-fork-failure-11769/ 19Nm ..........newer bikes, mid 2013 some time I think, onwards actually have 19Nm marked on them by the pinch bolts!
I've been very happy with the price and service that Mark offers, and it's nice to see how much care he takes of the bike/wheels, and even of himself (I've seen him put on ear defenders when he breaks the bead away from the rim). Ride in Bike Tyres
satzoomer, Guildford tyres do a discount for wvam  Members also rate Kingston tyres, and there is a mobile fitter in chertsey area, I forget the name of them. If you have a stand you could try mail order from someone like round and black, and getting the tyres fitted to loose wheels usually costs about a tenner. I have PR3s on my bike at present, and as you said have had no issues with Scorpions either. I can honestly say I don't even give the tyres a thought as they/ve never caused a problem.
satzoomer, I got Pilot Power 3 (PP3) from Micheldever tyres in Hampshire last July and I think there great. Like you I had no problems with the Scorpions but they do appear to be dual use and I will never go offroad (intentionally). I considered the Pilot Road 3 (PR3) (these seem to be the most popular choice). PP3 is marketed as being suitable for the track, PR3 is marketed as a sport touring tyre. If you compare PR3 and PP3 on the Michelin web site you will see that the PR3 scores 2 points higher for longevity, the PP3 score 2 more points for grip and interestingly budget so maybe PP3 is cheaper than PR3. These points are out of 5. I was interested in the extra grip of PP3 as I think one day it may save me, I am not too bothered about the longevity as the PP3 are still going after 4,000 miles including 2,500 miles Alps trip. Most of these miles are out of town and so maybe easy on the tyre, it is a dual compound. Learned friends tell me there is no such thing as a bad tyre these days.
DonaldD..........couple of things to consider about the PP3 over the PR3 - as with most sports tyres they take more warming up/perform less well when cold - I bet they don't perform as well as the PR3 in the wet (clue in the tread pattern;-)
