After not getting on with my standard touring screen on my 2013 gt I picked up the variable screen by mra, massive improvement ! I,m 6'3" and got a lot of buffeting on every level of adjustment , just got back from a soaking ride out to west bay in Dorset , about 80 mile round trip for me and got up to a fairly hefty speed on the way back no buffeting at all !very very impressed even on the lowest setting! I think the bike dosent like lots of rain as the Sarter button wouldn't let me change heating modes for grips and would start without pressing it? Cleaned and dryed it's now fine!
I was looking at the MRA, though my issue is more around wind noise than buffeting. At 5'11" I get quite a bit of wind noise in my Neotec. Ive been looking at various screens with adjustable deflectors, it's just a shame you cant try before you buy. With the stock screen being fine in terms of buffeting , I was looking at Laminar Lip for Ducati Multistrada MTS 1200 screen 2013 | eBay as a possible solution to noise.
i brought the whole screen with the variable lip attached to it, it is smaller than the touring screen on the gt which I think looks better, and it's also much much better for me, as I had no buffeting at all! Still get wind noise with no plugs buts that's always going to happen! I have pretty good moulded earplugs which work well.
Yeah, got the same one on my bike. Just moved bike to girl friends garage today (middle of house move) and I can report the screen as being better up to 70mph. No ear plugs due to short ride of around five miles. Thumbs up.
The only problem I have found with a variety of screens that I have tried is that as soon as you create a still air pocket, the helmet vents get no flow and my glasses steam up. Buggered if I do, buggered if I don't . Andy
denH , I used a local hearing aid firm to do them called Honion hearing in devon! they took a mould and a couple of weeks later hey presto! I had audio plugs with a 3.5mm jack lead built in as I can listen to music etc, they are really comfortable as I never had never got on well with foam ones, they are expensive but they will last years and they have my mould if I ever need replacements.
I have the MRA screen on my 2011 Multi 1200S, it's this one: MRA Screen DUCATI MULTISTRADA 1200 X-CREEN screen windscreen grey smoked 56672 | eBay It came with the bike and had the original screen as well. I put the original on again just for a comparison, did a test run up from J11 to J12 and back again on the M4 (I like 2 miles from J11) with both screens, trying to average around 85 each way, one way with the screen up, the other down. The standard gave me a headache because of the buffeting, I'm 6'2". With the MRA, in the highest setting, it's absolutely perfect, some side wind but other than that, perfect, on the lowest, it provides clean air with no buffeting. So when I ride, the screen goes up for cruising and then goes down for sports blasts. I can't fault it.
Andy. Where did you get it from. You got a link ? I'm 6' 5'' and find the standard GT screen a nightmare unless I hunch down which isn't ideal. Do you still keep the standard mechanism then with this screen or is it a full swap out ? Is it smaller than the standard one or is it just due to me not seeing mine in months as it's hidden in the garage as it doesn't like the cold weather.
Exactly the same as me! I had to duck down a couple of inches which is crap! It is a simple change over, old one off new one on! it is smaller than the original by quite a bit, but gives so much better flow, I did some silly speeds a couple of weeks ago and cruised at a fairly respectable rate and it is 100x better! here's the link! I rode with the screen at the lowest! with the flip up bit at the highest totally forgot to raise the screen which normally I!me always buggering about with! windscreens Hello Andy Hope to take the plunge with a new Pikes Peak shortly. Most interested in your comments on Vario Windscreen. I note from the web site that there are two Touring Vario Screens. At 6ft 5 " did you go for the larger of the two. I am 6ft 2" and wind noise has been the only very minor drawback to three years of highly enjoyable ownership of my current 1200S. Look forward to hearing from you. RLowe
Hi Rlowe i went for the smaller of the 2, which I have found to be brilliant, much better than the original touring screen I had before i think the best for me is when it's at the lowest setting of screen with the lip on maximum setting, you will know what I,m talking about if you get one.where are you looking at pikes peak? I just couldn't get on with the touring screen, it was strange because my brother is 6'2" and he found the same problem as me, he's exactly the same as me in that the new mra screen is much better! cheers andy
I've got the larger MRA Vario touring version with the adjustable top section fitted to my MTS and it's simply excellent all round! Quality, fit, adjustment, the lot. I'm just under 6' or 1.78 metres in Euro' and I can't fault it. No I'm not on commission, just telling it as it is.
daft question, but can you adjust the top section on the move ? I was thinking of the Calsci medium touring screen for longer trips and fitting a PP shortie when actually there, but this might be a better solution (not least because the calsci screen looks like a barn door !). Has anyone had both ? btw I'm 5'11", so not as tall as you lot of lofty buggers
Den I use moulded earplugs as well...... ultimate ear | Ear Plugs | Hearing and Ear Protection London UK - call them and they'll arrange an appointment with a local rep.
I have an MRA screen which isn't currently fitted to the bike but I'm not sure what size it is, didn't realise they did two. ive generally got fitted my pikes peak shorty carbon but the mra ill use for any distance stuff without doubt, no point in selling it just yet although I must admit I've not tried the stock clear screen yet either so it may eventually become surplus. Is this the short or taller version chaps? I got the screen as an extra with my bike but all the parts are safely packed up in the loft and to be fair getting it all out to check the product code would be a right pain (the mrs has loads of shite in the loft)
