*** Wanted! 999 Biposto ***

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Moo!, Feb 8, 2014.

  1. Hi all,

thanks for the great advice you've given me and I've now considered my options, compared the models and am in a position to buy an iconic Duc.

I decided on the 999 over the 749 since I have had a Triumph Daytona 675 and the specs for that and the 749 are so close that I would prefer to move on to something a bit different - hence the 999 would suit me better.

    Preferences are;

    • 999 Biposto - late model preferred (black swingarms) 2005 - 2007 but any decent one considered
    • Full service history

Other than that I'm not to bothered. I would like to see a non standard exhaust but I'll work around that if the exhaust is stock. Prefer standard model but would consider an 'S' . Not too worried about cosmetic damage which would obviously be reflected in the price.

I wanted to get this post in early since I calculate that I will have the money in place by the end of February (once I have sold my other toy - my wife insists I sell it before I get another one) and will be ready to move then. However having said that I *could* ignore my wife's advice if anyone needed to move quickly (dangerous ground),

So if you have a lovely 999 Bip you want to sell in the near future please PM me.

I know it'll be the start of a beautiful relationship!

  2. There is a 2006 on ebay at the mo.

  3. Hi Buzz - yes I contacted the chap - hasn't replied yet - thanks

  4. Hi all
been thinking about my preferences and looking at the specs again.

I realised that actually any decent 999 bip would be great ( I have a particular fondness for yellow bikes but I know that is stretching my wish list a bit far !)

Please pm me if you have anything to offer.

Oh and that 2006 Bip on Ebay - very good condition but the chaps price is a bit keen - I know it is low mileage but that doesn't worry me, and not sure I want to pay a premium for that... 12,000 miler would not worry me at all.

  5. Yellow ?........you're kidding me ?

    Thread closed. ;)

  6.
The last 3 bikes I've had have been yellow...

I definitely recommend replacing your bike with one of the same colour.

The reason is the missus never notices when I change bikes! No idea! Clueless!

This avoids embarrassing questions and outright refusals about whether you can buy a new bike or not...:upyeah:

Mind you my missus cannot tell the difference between a Panigale and a pan ner sprouts!

...and I intended to keep it that way!

No seriously any colour 999 , I don't care as long as it's good!

  7. In 2006 after I totalled my R1, I decided to buy a brand new zx10r. I wanted a black 2004 one.

My local Kawasaki dealer only had a blue one left and I didn't want the 2nd generation one. So I wandered into their used bike showroom and saw a yellow 749s. I nearly bought it but decided to look at a few more first and eventually bought a black 749 bip from Ducati Aylesbury.

    So I don't really hate yellow one's.

  8. This isn't a suggestion for you, but I reckon this one will go cheap.

Poorly presented ad with negligible damage and a reasonable auction starting price. Around £3500 I reckon this will go for

  9. This one is my current pick of the bunch, far from standard but comes with plenty of nice bits...

The guy would be tempted by £4500 too... I asked him.

Full Termi system and slipper clutch would cost £800 used, plus it's a Motorapido built engine and map. A £1300 bit of work on top.

So if you wanted a 999 to track or to be a little trick, this is my pick.

  10. Thomas you are a star == both on my watch list - as you say not exactly for me but worth watching just to see what happens ,,, you never know:upyeah:

One thing both of them have in common, the sellers both seem to sell a lot of bike bits and cars etc on Ebay - usually I steer clear of amateur traders / dealers if only because they must be building a profit margin into the bike, therefore it is worth at least 15% less as a private sale to account for that.

Maybe I am being too fussy? - I don't know if you have any views on this?

I would prefer private sellers (very like myself) from whom I am buying their own bike, registered to them for some time and whose Ebay list doesn't read like a bike scrap dealer... but who knows? I'm prepared to cut cards with the Devil as long as the bike is worth it!

  11. I think that track bike is being sold by a regular owner rather than a dealer.

This bike is a cat d write off 749s with a 999s engine. The guy wants £2600 for it.

I decided to leave this one myself but it is an option.

I'd be going for the track bike if it was me, or at least arranging a viewing. It seems to have the most bang for buck in regards to what you would have to fork out to get the same shiny parts by yourself, but it's far from standard and has no lights.

  12. Fair enough - I do see what you mean and a bit of me is tempted but what I had in mind was a private sale, well looked after 999 with a solid. provable service record. Not too worried about it being pristine, the odd scratch and scrape would be fine although obviously the less of those the better.

Oh and I would like to be able to pay for it and ride it home - I haven't the facilities to do any work on it other than change the oil / filters unfortunately.

Just have to be patient I guess !

  13. All of the standard 999 bikes with decent mileage and service history are for sale by dealers and massively over-priced. I'm sure something will be along soon enough. I'll let you know if I spot anything.

  14. I see the 06 on ebay has ohlins forks. Either upgraded or sometimes the factory fitted them if showa not available. Nice bit of bling and adds to the value but they do blow seals regularly.

He's not far off the money with BIN price, a mint 05/06 with up to 20,000m should fetch £5k all day.
Shame its got no goodies on it, I try to buy with exhaust and hugger fitted minimum.

  15. i was was going to buy that bike back in 2010 from the previous owner. He completely dicked me around and ended up selling it to the guy from Liverpool who is now selling it.

i ended up getting my 749R Supersport bike instead so overall I ended up with a better bike. Karma I suppose.

  16. Whaaaaa. where is this bike you are referring too?..

  17. Ducati 999s | eBay

It was this one. I don't know if has sold or not but he would have let it go for £2600.

It originally sold at auction for £2300 but the guy didn't make contact with the winning bidder as was left with negative feedback as such.

He re-advertised it at £3200 but it didn't sell.

    Cat D 749s with 999s engine fitted.

  18. Your right - that 06 in Blackpool is a peach and I am tempted.

The only thing is the low mileage which attracts a higher price - I'd rather have 1 10k miler and pay less money!

However we all know how it is buying secondhand, either bikes or houses, you have to make compromises somewhere on what your ideal spec/condition/accessories are.

I'll call this seller but it is early in the sale and he sounds like he is firm on what he wants.

  19. In my opinion a higher mileage Ducati says reliability is good. It must have worked for a decent amount of time if they were able to rack up some mileage on it...
