If anyone splashes out on the new Arai sun visor kit, as reviewed in this weeks MCN, can they put a review on the forum plz? I've got a Arai RX7-GP and it's a real pain in the a**e when the sun comes out. I usually have to stop to sort out the sunglasses or dark visor whilst my mate just flips down the dark visor on his Schuberth. I've even tried a sun sensitive pinlock insert but it doesn't go dark enough. So this new sun visor kit may just be the solution. There are two issues that's stopping me dashing out and buying one straight away. First is the fact that the external dark visor forms a peak so I wonder how that is likely to affect the aerodynamics of the helmet. I've just sorted out the helmet buffeting issue on my Mutley 1200 so I wouldn't want to ruin all that at a stroke. Secondly is the price. £100 seems expensive to me. So if anyone has already splashed out lets have your views on here. It might just stop me making an expensive mistake :wink:
I bought one of these from Nippy Normans and couldn't fit this without wrinkles, maybe I'm just inept. Insulation tape works as well and costs almost nothing. I haven't seen the MCN article, I will though.
Not my cup of tea. I wear a black visor and don't ride at night. However if i had to and say my evening commute was borderline night/day then it would be handy.
Nearly every lid I own has a flip-down sunvisor. Best thing to happen to helmets since scratchproof visors.
well thats completely disappointing, tinted visors in the summer and insulation tape strip in the winter
+1 ! What is Arai thinking of ? Just replaced my Arai with a Shoei GT Air. First ride today with it and the internal sun visor is excellent. Well pleased.
That's exactly why I'm attracted to the gadget. I don't want to have to stop everytime the sun comes out (or goes in for that matter) to put on the shades etc. I'm going to the Swiss Alps again this summer and those who've been will know it's the 'land of the tunnels' where you can flit between pitch black to bright sunshine and back again within a matter of seconds. The facility to quickly flip a dark visor up and down would be perfect.

Missing the point. During my last 15 years of riding I have carried two visors. Recently both clear, one with a yellow pinlock and the other with a dark pinlock. As the light conditions change I swap visors. I could of cause wear sunglasses except I have to wear glasses. Fine all well and good. But neither of these you can do while you are riding. Thats why the internal sun visor is so darn good. The problem I see with the Arai system is its on the outside of the helmet. I do not see it catching on. Do not see it lasting and above all it looks crap. Most of us want to look cool. In fact the Arai system reminds me of those flip up sun glasses you attach to specs. Maybe they are detachable and come with a chain to put round your neck !
One serious point about the sun visor on the outside of your main visor is that during a ride in changeable weather rain one minute then sun in your eyes the next, is that both your main clear visor and the dark outside visor are going to get dirty. Optically I'm not sure thats a good thing. Looking though two pieces of plastic that are dirty and or possible wet is surely not a good thing. I think Arai have cocked up. The sun visor has to be on the inside where its protected from the elements, so remains clean and optically clear. After all thats why Shoei, Schubert and X-lite do it that way.
Dark or clear, no need for this, it's designed for knobs with less than 20 years riding experience....
