Ducati 750ss All gaskets

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by Amentia, Feb 7, 2014.

  1. Hi,

I am currently undertaking an engine rebuild of my 1997 750ss and it's now time to put it all back together. I need to source some gaskets.

I have been looking at some of the sets on ebay: Complete Gasket Set fits Ducati Supersport 750 SS Nuda (750SC) 1997 | eBay

I also need some gaskets for the crankcase, and outer cases, but I'm having a hard time finding one for the crankcase.

Are there any recommended makes I should go for? Also, where can I find some?

    Cheers

  2. Most people appear to use just Ducati 3 Bond and no gaskets.....

....which in some ways makes sense because it is only one joint instead of two......

......however, if you found gaskets in there, I would be tempted to replace them, because you can interfere with end float etc if you leave them out (or add them).............

  3. Ducati don't sell cover gaskets anymore, just use Threebond instead. You can buy the correct one from the dealer, in silver or black. I can't remember the number at the moment though.

  4. As above...the crankcases, and covers are sealed up with Threebond now. You'll need to adjust the shims on the crank, gearbox and lay shafts to compensate.
The genuine head gasket kit from Ducati is £22 plus you'll need a few O-rings on the clutch case/oil pump and maybe a couple of seals.

  5. Of course, if you really want gaskets for the covers, they are easily handmade / DIY...........

  6. Cheers for the help guys, I think I'll make my own gaskets.

Does anybody know how thick gaskets are for the cases?

    Cheers

  7. There's a NOS set on the bay I saw today I think it had the gasket for the cases too.

  8. The set in the box? I saw them but wasn't sure if that was the right set for me. If they are definitely the right ones I'll get em.

This is my first project, can you tell? Lol

  9. Not sure if it correct kit, there was a part number, may be worth having a look up, out of interest, why did you need to rebuild the engine?

  10. I didn't lol the engine was in a sorry state aesthetically so I split it to get the cases powder coated.

    I'll check it out

  11. Were there gaskets in there when you stripped the engine..........particularly in the crankcase?

If not, don't introduce one unless you check all the shims / float on the shafts.

  12. Yeah, there were gaskets in there when I stripped it.

I've had a look on the net but I can't verify that they will fit my engine.

Is the 1996 750 monster engine the same as the 1996 750ss engine?

  13. Can't be sure...........I thought the castings were in general.......safer (and possibly cheaper) to make them yourself if you can buy the correct material........

........and if you have one like mine, the central gasket through the crankcases is 'large' on the inside (seen from the screen filter hole) which I reckon means that not all the oil and crap comes out in an oil change...........

  14. Both my 2 valve SS motors have gaskets between the crankcase halves, and I replaced them with new ones from Baines Racing when I have had the motors apart. I just put all the shims back where I found them on the dry clutch 750ss motor, because that was a straightforward rebuild job, and that worked fine post rebuild.

My 900ss motor was rather different though, because I was using new crank cases, bearings, and the original crank, so a lot of measuring stick action insued, including knocking up an adaptor for my vernier to measure the depths of all the bearing faces relative to the machined surface of the crank case half.

A little time consuming perhaps, but the attention to detail means that the gearbox is now the sweetest I have used on a Ducati.

  15. I bought the NOS gasket set for a 750 monster off ebay. It turned up today and fits perfectly, so I can confirm that the 750 monster and 750ss gaskets are the same.

Thanks for all the advice :D

  16. Thanks for letting us know...........I assume the gasket material is the same thickness.....???

  17. Yep, it's all exactly the same as what I took out :)

  18. On an engine rebuild of a monster a couple of years ago i found that after adjusting the shims to use treebond the barrels would not go on the motor, no way! it had to have a gasket or machine the crankcase mouths.

  19. I am rebuilding another 900 SL the centre crankcase, alternator and clutch cover gaskets are all readily available from Brancato engineering [h=1]Brancato Engineering[/h]

  20. Thanks for that info Simon i will give them a try,
An open question on the same subject, originally there was a centre gasket obviously superseeded by glue, but the centre gasket was part oil baffle as it seperated both halves with a paper shaped baffle, would or could this have any effect on oil movement in the sump?
