I've just bought the wife some bike gear ready for when we go touring, The trouble is she's only short and I know she's going to struggle to get on the bike with out standing on one of the rear pegs, They seem quite far away from there anchor point with not much metal to hold them up, do you think one peg can take the weight of a size 14 woman fully geared up?
Taking size out of it, my OH always stands on the n/s passenger peg to get on the bike...... it's still there after 2 years of abuse!
I have stood on my OEM front and rear pegs one at a time fully togged up without a problem.........12 stone. But the carbed SS hangers look stronger than yours......I think. Platform boots perhaps? The footpegs I made up for my high level zorsts (MOT) wouldn't take it, even if Madam was taller and I have yet to see her with her knees under her chin..............(on the bike that is.........)
Front and rear pegs are the same part numbers, and the rear hanger is more than up to the job. Mrs JCM won't be breaking them any time soon.
My other half does too. Always has and on whatever bike I've got. Never had a proper failure yet. I did have one of the captive nuts on my 748 snap off the subframe, But the nut stayed fixed to the bolt which goes through the subframe so it was just a bit loose until I removed the broken captive nut and tightened a normal one in it's place. I even leave the bike on the side stand while she gets on sometimes and I've not had one of those snap off either, but not tried on that on a mutli though.
this thread needs pictures of each "other half" in leathers so we can judge each for foot peg stability issues. I'll start, no issues here....
That's amazing his back wheel is going backwards but thanks for the comments chaps, I'm guessing the hanger is made of drop forged carbon steel and not aluminium?
lol, that pic is superb The peg hanger is indeed alloy, and is no different from anything else I've had on a touring bike in terms of size, so not sure why you would think it will be any weaker ? I suspect any pillion will stand on the pegs when the panniers are on the bike, and even more so when the top box is on too. Also, consider the peg bracket supports the bottom of the pannier, and when people have been unfortunate enough to drop their bike, the peg takes all the load from the pannier hitting the ground. Even then the bracket still doesn't break, or as far as I'm aware even bend... I don't think you have anything to worry about
