Buying my first Ducati... Monster or 996?!

  1. Hi I am new to the forum... and to Ducati's! Therefore I need some enthusiasts' advice :)

After looking, hearing and browsing the internet, I've fallen in love with both the monster and 996. I know, completely different bikes right? I was hoping to find a decision-swaying argument here! I have a budget of about £4k. What are the big pros/cons of each? Do you have any pictures of your own monster or 996?

    Any comment welcome :)

  2. Hi and welcome. You dont say if you have actually ridden either bike and that is the only test that counts. We all like and expect different things so while I wouldnt say ignore everyone elses opinions , just have a test on both and buy the one that is right for you.

  3. As above - take them for a spin, otherwise you'll never know which one you prefer.

  4. Welcome. New monster or old? Depends what you are using for and as said get a spin on both as hey are very different, and yet similar in many ways

  5. What are you currently riding and what do you use the bike for?

  6. I'll sit on the fence and say: 996

  7. Perhaps if he knows what he is buying into:eek:

  8. Sssshhhh !

  9. Buying with the heart....the 996, with the head.....a new monster :upyeah:

  10. I just bought a monster tested a number of bikes, prefer the monster for my needs. Go and test ride a few bikes.

  11. Sort of depends if you like going EVERYWHERE quickly or only some of the time. 996 is only really fun at speed, but then it is the total business. Monster is more all round, but I don't get the same buzz from them when the road really gets fast.

You can tour happily on a 996 and swiftly as the fairing deals with the wind. But you can't really admire the scenery as you do. The Monster isn't really any better or worse for carrying luggage. You can probably have more fun at slower speeds on the Monster.

All depends on your previous bikes, where you live, what you're planning to do with them.

Both must be rubbish for carrying passengers, unless they're midgets or masochists. Or preferably petite masochists.

You can empty your bank account customising both with bling.

  12. Get both, or the best of both, with a Monster S4rs (or get both, a 996 and a Monster)

  13. Or, get a monster and have clip ons on it, changes the look and feel and in my mind actually becomes more comfy. Looks cool too, especially if you add a nice big bikini fairing :upyeah:
