  7. As you uninstall your AVG you will be given the option of installing a free version anyway. It has happened to a couple of my pcs in the past so your good and don't need to look for other anti virus :upyeah:

  8. When searching for AVG they steer you towards the Trial version in the hope that you upgrade to the Full version when it ends. What you want to download is the Free version direct from AVG, they don't make it easy to find though.

  9. Microsoft security essentials, especially if you have windows 7. It is light, has all you need (antivirus, malware, firewall) and after setup you do not see it almost ever (unless you get alert) as all updates come automatically.

  10. Either switch back to the Free version of AVG or go to Avast Free.

  11. Do not do it both are super heavy. MS one is 15MB how much are the other two 100MB or more?

  12. Webroot, if you want to pay for it........

.....I trialled the early versions of it, Prevx and have trialled it recently............its almost too thorough.........and hardly any PC resource used.

  13. Scretch that if you have XP get those mentioned by others. If Win7 well I use MS one and have not had a virus for years.

  14. MS security essentials. Free, not resource heavy and unobtrusive. Best out there by far.

  15. Sorry Lucaz, should have qualified that I meant XP for AVG/Avast.

For the others, I'm not sure that JUST using MS Security Essentials is a good idea...

  16. MS Essentials only on XP no no.

On 7 and 8 it is a full protecticon suit so do not understand your reservations antonye.

  17. I used to be in the avg etc camp, until a mate pointed out that if you owned an Aston Martin you wouldn't take it to a Nissan dealer for a service. Virus companies, by definition, have a vested interest in viruses.

Think about that for a moment.

After that conversation, I binned avg et al, and installed MS essentials. Guess what, it runs smoother, faster and as Luca has already stated is fairly unobtrusive.

It's looking like I'll build a new system and install W7, I've had 10-11 years use out of this one and it owes me nothing.

    Ho hum.

  18. Buy a mac.

  19. Need one in this weather...

    Coat, door and gone...
