Just curious to see everyone's opinion on this, I have a 03 999s with 8k and only 2 owners. I've got the receipt for the major service at 7.5k including belts, valves done and everything else but it was serviced by previous owner ( my mate ) for the last 9 years so not complete service history, even though I was shocked to be told it's only worth 2.5k trade in against a 10k 1098s. I don't want to change but it was out of curiosity more than anything and the major dealer said its cos they aren't popular and lose about 1k per year! So in 2 years time she will b worth 500 quid!!!!! Any thoughts?
Sell it for 4k easy in a private sale. The cheapest bike I've seen sell over the last couple of months was a 999 Nero that sold for 4000 exactly in an eBay auction in December. I would not be giving it up for 2500 no matter what the condition. The forks will sell for 1000 if they're ohlins and the engine for 1200. Plus £500 for frame and v5. That's already over your dealer's offer
I would have thought your bike was undervalued and the new bike is overvalued so you would be worse off on both counts . I would think your bike would be worth another 1k .
I would have thought about 4k ish too but with that sort of mentality of overpricing theirs and undervaluing mine especially at this time of year I think is a bit insulting. No wonder people are hanging onto their bikes for longer. I do plan on keeping her for a good long while and can say it's the best bike I've owned! Only had it for 6 months and I'm a complete ducati convert!
I px'd my '06 999S last year for 5K and the dealer sold it in a week for 7K. 'Aren't popular? That's dealer speak for I want to make good money on this one!'
As far as I`m concerned that is as good as robbery and whatever happens to him would have been fair .
Ive yet to go to any dealer where regardless of what vehicle ive turned up with, car or bike, they have twisted on at how unpopular and hard to shift it is. And that combined with the 'if I give you a price will you do a deal today' bollox. They are all the same...
As I said, I was a bit insulted by it. I only went to the dealer as they had virtually every other bike I would consider in and I wanted to sit on them as one big comparison. No other bike I know of has adjustable pegs, seat and certainly not head angle and sounds as good as mine ( twin termi cans ) imho my 999 sounds better than the panigale!!!! Just my opinion though!!!!!
They are taking a risk to make money.. I sold my S2000 to a dealer for £6750. I saw it listed a couple of weeks later for £9500 however it eventually sold for £8k...... I look after my stuff so who ever got that car got a very good car indeed. There are people I know who have taken cars to dealers with a mass of problems including bent subframes etc, things which are not easily picked up on a walk around, quick test drive or inspections. Does your 999 have adjustable head angle? I thought that was only 749R.
Yeah the 999s does have an adjustable head angle. The other side of the dealership coin is where I take my bike to get serviced etc they are honest, helpful, know what they r doing and above all trustworthy cos I was looking at the spanner to do it ( 28 dollars ish ) they lent me all their "c" spinners to try best fit and in the end sold me a hagon shock spanner for 4 quid which I made a quick mod on it and it works brilliant!!!! Shame they don't sell many bikes as just mainly repairs / service.
Firstly if your 999s is a Biposto - I'll have it! Secondly, as a someone who's looking to buy a 999 it cheeses me right off that of the 9 (Bips) listed on ebay 8 of them are from dealers....and every fibre of my body resists buying from them as to me they add no value (I've got the money and don't want to PX and have enough mechanical nous (I hope ) not to want a 3 month guarantee). So , to me, it's like handing the dealer £800 to £1000 just for the convenience of it being squeeky clean and being able to view at any time ... grr So it looks like most Ducatistas trade their 999s into a dealer when moving on to a 848 / 1198 etc I only wish I could get to talk to them first for a deal of mutual benefit - maybe I'll be forced to put a 'Wanted' ad into Ebay...
Ill sell you my mono for a good price. Carbon bst wheels. Full ball and ramp slipper and 57mm termi. Power commander etc. Loads more bits
