  1. Yup, Traffic Red. Looked ok to my wizened old eyes.

  2. I used RAL3020 on the 999 frame (Top picture) still comes out orangey

  3. 3020 been there ..you know when you have been tangoed…….

  4. ^^I'd agree there is an element of Orange in this colour but it is the best bet for powdercoating, I don't think there is anything closer RAL wise, other than that you are down to a wet spray and then you can colour match perfectly. It's likely to cost more if you have to supply the paint.

I went in this direction when I considered having mine done but the cost was too much to really make a difference. It might depend on who the supplier of the powder is possibly. I'm happy with mine and you have to look pretty closely to notice the colour variation between frame and bodyparts.

  5. i had my current frame powder coated by jhp…..i know they had a proper match batch created………it still stuck out like a donkeys compared to the panels..…..so i had it sprayed over the top in the correct red...

  6. So are we saying the powder coating comes out orange?

  7. jaffa…..

  8. More orangey, as I understand it...

  9. I checked my frame today as I haven't uncovered the bike for ages. The colour is a true Red but it is slightly darker than the Ducati Red used from 1999 to 2003, which is the one I use when spraying. It's an ICI colour, that I use which requires no lacquer as it is a full gloss.

If it's not RAL 3020 then there is a colour that is a close match that does not have any orange in it.

  10. I've been getting some estimates for painting/powder coating a frame.

    Shot blasting £40 + Vat
Powder coating black/orangey red, £30 pie 'n' mash.
Wet paint (to Ducati red) at a panel beaters. £200 + VAT. £40 for paint.

    Hmmmm.

  11. I paid £270 (Pound notes of course) for all panels and and frame to be done in the correct colour and that included the price of a litre of paint.

    £200 + VAT + Paint sounds dear

  12. i was quoted 180 to strip and wet paint a frame

  13. Motor trade mate...

  14. £200.00 plus vat is a lot. The price quoted for the paint is about right if you were buying it non trade or you don't have your own mixing system. So all in all that's a lot and I think there has got to be someone near you that will do just as good a job for less.

  15. Another quote in - £250 + vat.
    Feck dat!

    Black it is!

  16. powder or paint…..

  17. Lip stick, powder and paint..?

    Paint.

  18. there is an awful lot of frame to prep for painting…can you not get it bead blazed to clean it…..thats got to be cheaper than the painter doing it…
with mine the fact the prep work was done with the wrong colour powder then that was flatted and then the top coat and laquer…..

  19. Quote number 1 was without any prep by the painter. Blasting would be extra.

  20. wow…..i could get a frame blasted and powder coated near here for circa 40 quid…….now thats a good base coat to then get painted...
