Secondhand Mercedes SLKs.....

  1. .......anyone got any experience of them?

I was looking at those say between 2006 and 2010.........I hate spending money on cars, but we hate the damn thing we have at the moment and I have my doubts it would protect anyone very much in a shunt, so I'm looking for a heavier coupe type of car....something like the Nissan 200 SX which we reckon was one of the toughest cars we owned.

It seems from what research I can find out, that the smaller engined SLK is faily economical and the vehicle excise licence is considerably less than the 2.0litre coupe we currently have......but are they reliable?

    Ta

    AL.

  9. Wife's got a 2010 300 and Loves it, personally I detest it. It's a V6 and the only time it sounds good is from cold until it warms up. The auto box is as lively as an 80 year old granny and other than an electric roof it's very basic inside. Oh and the lights are shite.

  10. don't, AL, just fucking don't!
It's a wanky merc which will throw up loads of fuel adaption faults for no reason and if its the 7g box will probably have the speed sensor shit itself - 1300 quid to you. - no engine warning light, it just bangs the box into third gear and limps you home.

Lambda sensor is a 250 quid job, 211 is the sensor alone. you need two, pre and post cat. The 200 Kompressor is mediocre as the supercharger is needed to shift that lardy barge around- trust me, they aint that light!

Mercs are fucking shit AL, simple as and the customer service from main dealers and MBUK is utter arrogance.

If you're looking at an SLK go for the BMW Z4 if you like the looks, near flawless reliability record from the straight 6, and the only thing to go wrong is the soft top motor which should have been changed as a warranty recall on all cars.

  11. oh yes, and the lights really are shite!- unless you have the Bi Xenon HID lights like Drinky said.

  12. OK Thanks all........better think of something else, then..........SWB Land Rover maybe.....

...and as for sh*te lights........try driving on sidelight power all the time.......'cos that's what they are on the current piece of cr*p....

...not even all the better bulbs improve them.

  13. alfa159?

  14. probably designed by merc then

  15. so the juries still out for you then?

  16. SWMBO had a 2L 2012 one and loved it except for the fuel consumption. It drank the bloody stuff compared to the Mini Cooper she had before and the Mini Cooper S she has now.

  17. 1 Series BMW?

  18. Z4
