  1. Ah yes, he's been trying to sell that for a while. Would be a very good buy at that price. might have to chase that on up in in a few weeks time.

  2. My sentiments too.
A long time ago I went to see a low miler (about 700 miles IIRC ) Triumph TT600... the guy had it in Spain and it had not been used regularly for a few years. The bike was then about five years old.

I smelt a rat though and looked at the engine casings and felt around underneath the fairing to find hat the engine block was dripping in oil.

It seems that one or two main oil seals had dryed out through not being used enough and the engine was just peeing oil. It needed a rebuild - news that the seller (who wanted a premium price of course on account of the low mileage) did not want to hear!

  3. Yep yer right.

Of the 19 999s on Ebay at the moment only 9 are Bips

Of these 8 are in the hands of dealers and the one private one (in Blackpool/Fleetwood) wants a high premium because of ultra low mileage - 2200 miles (where I would rather have a 10k bike for less money personally )

I don't hate dealers - they do add value if you need to trade in, need finance of want the security of a guarantee.

But for me I'm not trading in, have the money and have enough mechanical confidence to take on a private sale.

So, in point of principle I have no benefit in paying a dealer a 15% to 20% margin - which can equate to a cool £800-£1000 in the bikes I'm looking at...nah can't pay all that just for the benefit of having found the right bike for me...

I know it'll turn up!

  4. Thanks Wassy - right up my street! :upyeah:

  5. Good point Final...

With 999 prices it seems to be that good, very low mileage examples are being advertised at more than an 848 (for example ) average milers (10k on the clock),For instance I have seen a low mileage 2006 999 going for more than an 11k 2010 848 that is only 6bhp less. 140bhp 848 Evos seem to be not much more, 1098's either.

    Dilemma time ...

What's the better buy - a 2006 999 or a four years younger 2010 848 that's current shape (ok but not spec) of the bikes on the Ducati showroom floor???

Guess if I'm on the 999 part of the forum I know what the answers will be but it's got me in a spin.

  6. Simples. You have to try both to see which you prefer. I am thinking 999 is gruntier which I prefer personally. Someone will tell me the 848 is faster handling but I like the handling on the one I have. The 999 brakes very well but I bet the 848 brakes better - the latest Dukes I've ridden have awesome brakes.
