“ This year besides my usual work with the Ducati Riding Experience I will also be testing the WSBK Panigale and perhaps the MotoGP bike. I’m also considering the possibility of making a wild card appearance in WSBK, today I will be talking with Ernesto Marinelli and Paulo Ciabatti.” SBK, Bayliss: test con Panigale e (forse) D16
That motogp ride was the stuff of legend, no doubt about it. And some of his wsb overtakes defy all logic; he's one of the best racers of all time. But the title of Best Comeback was taken by Hailwood many years ago, and is unlikely to be bettered, even by Bayliss. All it'll do is serve to remind him what could have been, had he not retired so soon.
Nah. Get him in on it. If he's mid pack it'll be no surprise and no shame, if he's at the front it'll be awesome. And it will be interesting to compare his times to the other Ducati riders. Plus what a draw for Ducati fans!
The Wikipedia page on Troy Bayliss is written very strangely. Including this misleading nugget.. "On 1 April 2007, at Donington Park, Bayliss crashed at Coppice corner on lap six of the first Superbike race of the day. His right hand was momentarily caught under the motorcycle during the crash, and the injury required the eventual surgical removal of a testicle [3] and of the intermediate and distal phalanges of his little finger..." He had testicles on his hand?!?
Well by all means do the tests required and get your fix, but please NO 'Wild Card' rides. Be remembered as a legend.
