Free key guards

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by MrAliT, Feb 27, 2014.

  1. You know those key guards that were being given away free? Anyone managed to get one to fit?

The one I received is roughly the same shape as a key guard but to say it requires modification is a bit like saying Frankinstein just needed his nails clipped and a comb through his hair. I cant see a way this is fitting without some serious chopping about and even then there's nowhere for the immobiliser ring to sit. Has anyone managed to get theirs to fit? What did you have to do to get it on and how does it look?

I'm just trying to think if there's anything I can use mine for......shame I don't smoke. I might frame it with the title 'If its too good to be true....' as a reminder to myself.

  2. Free? It cost you £5. How much was the postage?

  3. And think what I could have spent the £5 on instead had I know it was going to be so far out!

  4. Ungrateful twat

  5. Yeah I know! What a numpty! If he's said 'these are completely useless to man or beast but I need them off my desk' I'd have been delighted to send him a fiver!

  6. well if it would make you feel better to send another free fiver to someone else, ill let you have details of my Nigerian ( other countries are available) bank account. then you can be double delighted!

    :upyeah:

  7. No such thing as a free lunch, but the sellers got £50 to put towards his :)

  8. Quite.

  9. That'll cover the cost of materials for his poor attempt at key guards. No wonder Matt was pissed.

  10. Are you aware that the DP one at least, sits on top of the original plastic/rubber guard? It doesn't replace it. Threw me on what to do with the immobiliser ring when I went to fit my Ducati performance version

  11. These ones dont sit on top. Mine currently sits on my workbench. Twas worth a fiver on the off chance.

  12. I've just tried that as that hadn't occurred to me....nope. don't fit that way either.

I've just dropped the member a message. Having had a think, I'm sure they were sent out in good faith but I cant help feel that they've not helped him here.

  13. Hi everyone,

I am happy to refund everyones fiver if not happy with the keyguard as per the above comments.

I could not afford to pay for everyones postage and give the item away free as I paid £160 for 8 of them from a UK supplier, who told me the fitting issue was down to having no fixing point for the immobiliser ring (which is common anyway). I could see that the shape looked slightly different to mine once received, and that the holes for the bolts were smaller (so would need drilling out which is no bother). Unfortunately I do not have a bike to test them on so I decided just to offer them for free.

My stock is sold out and it will be about 8 weeks before I get more in. My key guards are completely different with metal inserts and the correct shape etc but again apologies if anyone thinks they have been mislead.

    Best wishes
    Paul.

  15. This was a clue...

"Remember only 9 available so first come first serve and no refunds given"

So he knew they were crap. Also, he only sold 5.

  16. The additional clues were 'not good enough to retail' and 'free' Tom aside from the postage, which I admit I may have made £1 on but lets face it I paid £160 for 8 of them (after looking at the invoice).

I didnt want to throw them away but thought the forum was the best place to give them away, thats it.

  17. You have been refunded Alistair.

  18. My apologies Paul, I thought you were after a scam from the off but clearly I was mistaken.

  19. Lol..come one peeps. They were obviously 'flawed'. Dont pay postage for a FREE 'second' and then complain that its not quite perfect.

  20. Thanks Paul. Fair play for dealing with it well.....good bit of customer service in the end.
