Simple rules, avoid motorways as much as possible except to bypass big towns and link the twisty roads. Throw in the Alps, Col Du Galiber in France and Stelvio Pass in Italy at just under 9,000 ft high, the Black Forest and the Nurburgring., though the Ring was a non event due to torrential rain. Find good food and sample the different countries beer. Great bunch of mates that I travel with, though more usually for off road trips in Morocco. Each night was a real laugh, though I'm not sure about the videos of the antics!! The winners of our 2012 Euro competition are as follows. Germany won on the best food and best beer. Italy hottest at 36c France wettest and coldest at 9c Three way tie for best road between France, Germany and Italy though Italy probably just got the vote with Stelvio pass. Friendliest police force, definately Italy where when we spotted the copper by the side of the road when at a speed considerably above the local limit; the nice man just waved and smiled. Fastest road, pretty obvious this, the unrestricted autobahn in Germany where after several attempts the Multi finally reached 160 on the clock, 149 max on the GPS. Most dismal country just like our Euro football performance in the quarter finals, England. Most thought provoking moment, visiting Battle of the Bulge war memorials in Belgium, the madness of war. Best bike out of 8 Mutley, KTM Adventure x2, KTM 990 SMT Yam R1 Africa Twin SV650 (extensively modded for track days) Triumph 1050 Sprint ST Without any doubt Mutley, not that your judge is biased at all
Top of Stelvio pass in Italy Lake Como, 36c and in need of a break and a dip in the lake Stelvio pass
Interesting! But the best food in Germany? Having visited France and Italy? My God man, what did you eat there? It's hard to beat a genuine French entrecôte and chips with a bottle of Châteauneuf du Pape. How did you manage it with a wurst?
I'm a real Francophile, love the food, and Italian food as well, but the the meal in Sonthoffen in Southern Germany was voted as the best by the entire group, strange but true. We had different meals that night, mine was steak, everyone agreed, not the wurst decision of the trip.
Loving it. Been a while since i went abroad, racing has got in the way, maybe next year it will change. Seeing stuff like this makes me think it will
Nice one - I am departing in 3 hrs, riding down to Hampshire from Worcester, unfortunately in p1551ng down rain. Over-nighting then the 7:50 chunnel tomorrow morning with a target to meet an American pal in Stuttgart (bit of a crappy motorway haul?). Porsche museum Thursday, then its an "open plan" but guess we will do Austria, possible some Croatia, Northern Italy. Will try and shoot up to Krakow on way back for Auschwitz visit, Prague and meander back to UK - return chunnel booked for 21st. Reckoning up to 3,500 miles, so brand new rear Roadsmart should be about shagged?
Still not sure. This last crash in June has given me lots of damage, written the year for biking off for me, and at 43 and even a decreasing waistline I'm not sure i could take another hit like the last...but I just love it  The missus doesn't share my enthusiasm either....
Cracking as ever Shaun! Now give me some hints on how to get from Rotterdam to the south of France/Switzerland and avoiding those dreaded MWays so I can plan my trip
Nice to see the exhaust is back to its travelling ways Shaun! Pictures look great, and having shown them to the missus, we are thinking of touring Scandinavia next summer...sounds like you had a fabulous time...
Off next Monday for 10 days. Apart from the first & last days it's Mountains all the way . Done this trip a few times. Hope the weather improves........ Nancy, Andermatt, Zernez, Cortina, Innsbruck, Zernez, Andermatt, Nancy.
It was great thanks David, hope the missus was impressed and your old exhaust got a good thrashing.........thoughts of a link pipe for a bit more noise, hit myself on head and repeat "No more spending" a million times
