A quick trip round France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Luxemburg and Belgium

  1. Easy peasy, either ring me with a map in hand or we'll have to meet up.

Why Switzerland? Some Germans we met said you get nicked for as little as 2 kph over the speed limits, and the fines are really draconian once above 20 kph over the limit.

  3. Oh yes, we loved looking at the photos....she was a little shocked at the Stelvio pass...all the tight switchbacks...but she does get travel sick sometimes... She would do it though. But yes, it got us thinking about our next trip. It's unlikely to be this year, so next year we are thinking of going to Scandinavia....

On the link pipe, I may well have the Mivv link pipe up for sale at some point, as I'm getting a QD system... Depends on what you want really....the Leo Vince (link pipe) is good too, so I hear, and has some inbuilt baffling. The Mivv sounds great though, even with the Mark 1 BR baffle....which isn't too restrictive. I know it can get a bad press, but the Mark 1 is pretty good. Anyway....

  4. The Swiss truth:

You don't get nicked for 2kph over the limit. In fact, they always give you 5 kph grace, so in a built-up area, you will get nicked for 56 kph. In theory then, on the motorway, you'd be nicked for 126 kph. In practice, you'd never get nicked on a motorway for that. I doubt even the fixed radars go off under 130, and a human policeman will not be interested. They tend to get interested at 140, but I still wouldn't annoy them by overtaking them at 130.

As for the draconian fines 20 kph above the limit - this can be very true. I got one last year. But to put it in perspective, I have been riding my bike in a spirited fashion in this country for the last 25 years and have had only a handful (barely) of small tickets in this time apart from last year's). Had I remained in the UK, I doubt I'd have fared any better.

Why Switzerland? Because it is spectacularly beautiful. In my view more beautiful than the French Alps (and generally better organised) and in Austria they really are hot on speeding. And you can speak 3 languages in an afternoon and not even leave the country.

  5. Will do, meet up sounds better you can buy me a drink LOL!

  6. Brilliant photo's. was the one by lake Como taken at Argegno? It looks very familiar.
We have just had to pull our two week trip leaving Saturday covering France, Germany, Switzerland, Czech republic. slovakia and Italy because we have picked up some flu type bug that has completely laid us to waste. I can barely walk the dog around the block let alone contemplate several thousand miles on the bike. Fortunately we can reschedule to September. Downside is we have to wait longer for something we started planning in January, the upside...it might have stopped raining by then!

  7. Thanks for clarifying that.

  8. WHAT! Andy where's the unlike button?

  9. I'll get on to that now lol

Sounds like you had a great time, thanks for sharing........

  10. I am down in Split enjoying a day off the bike. 1500 miles from Worcs and the Multi has been great, even with the rear shock locked in Sport/single rider mode. We encountered some horrendous weather coming down from Austria to Trieste, but the traction control was still doing the business (Thank fook!).

Lovely run down the Adriatic coast (scalextric track roads) but it is 35 deg C and frankly too hot for enjoyable motorcycling? The Duke sounds like a bag of spanners on tick over!

Going to bomb it back to Prague (2 days) to get back to cooler climes.
