Ducati aftercare - shocking

  1. I had my generator and water pump covers replaced under warranty last July, as they were badly corroded:

    You get the idea.

    The replacements are now going the same way:

    My local dealer, Snells (who have been excellent), sent the pics off to Ducati, who have declined my claim under warranty!

    I'm so pissed off about this. It's bad enough that in 18 months of ownership I've had just about every issue to be found on this forum, but for Ducati to turn around and say, 'tough shit' over components that are simply not fit for purpose is simply appalling.

    Now I have the time-consuming and frustrating task of writing to Ducati to escalate the case.

    It's a great bike when it's working, but I'm not sure it's worth all the hassle I've had.

  2. No way is that acceptable. Ducati are not only being unsporting, they are being foolish. In these days of the internet the adverse publicity that this and other issues will create is surely not worth the cost.
    Good on you for naming and shaming. We must all do the same.
     
  3. While I agree it is bad and not defending them buzz I must say that in these days of the internet if you were not expecting that to happen what were you doing. All of them do it, right or wrong is beyond point.
     
  4. While I agree Luca that aftercare generally leaves much to be desired, the more we air our grievances in public the more manufacturers will have to eventually sit up and take notice.
    Or maybe I`m just being naive.
     
  5. As I read it, it isn't the dealers fault but that of Ducati.

  7. Absolutely. I hope I have not given the impression that I am dissatisfied with Snells. I have stated in several previous posts that I think they are an excellent dealer. They have been exemplary in dealing with all the problems I have encountered, despite the fact that I did not buy the bike from them.

    I most definitely put the blame at the door of Ducati.

Obviously this cant be your fault , these aluminium painted covers haven't been either prepared properly prior to paint or primed correctly , perhaps the paint quality has suffered where its stored or moisture has been a problem where these cases have been stored right up till paint , but it definitely cant be your fault.
    I can publicly state to DUCATI that I wont be buying a new bike from them ever again , seeing how you have been treated.


    That's 1 counted out any more.

  10. My 2nd set of engine cases are going the same way. (3 months old). Bike now out of it's 2 year warranty and am EXPECTING to get this 2nd set done FOC, as the replacement parts were brand new; so they should have at least a years warranty out on them. Interesting to note that the new Monster 1200 has a completely different finish and colour on their engine cases. Engine being the same as the Mutleys.

  12. Thats just bloody terrible. If Ducati do not play ball, I think I would find out how much it would cost to get Snells to take the covers off, get a third party to paint them properly, and then Snells to refit. Make sure you document everything and then send Ducati the bill. If they do not pay maybe the small claims court can help, however I have no experience of this. Good luck with your fight. Ducati beware there is the new KTM Adventure 1190 knocking on your door.

  15. Ducati have never known how to get paint to stay on an engine.

    They will generally resist engine warranty claims due to their fear of opening the floodgates to a warranty tidal wave. The fact that many here have paint left on their engines after a couple of years of use is due to either exclusively dry, salt-free use, or meticulous, forensic cleaning after each ride - neither of which should be required to keep engine paint from blistering. Out of 7 Ducatis, only two have unblemished engine cases, my '74 750GT and '67 Cadet - neither of which were painted.
     
  16. Hold on, I keep getting told its my lack of maintenance and cleaning (I do t detail clean every ride, just wash it and have used protective products but obviously not anal enough) and because I live by the sea...
     
  17. I think you will find most manufacturers will take a similar view. I know a number of Triumph owners are unhappy about the same issue.
     
  18. Gary, how many miles a year are you doing? It shouldn't be a factor - just interested.

    That white deposit around the hose clip; not salt is it?

    I've had two mts 1200s for a combined 30 months. The first (2011) was like new at 18 mths and 11,000 miles when traded and the second (2013) is also perfect so far. Just lucky I guess.

    After seeing your bike I am suitably spurred on to much cleaning and spraying of acf 50. I already do both and don't ride much in salt. Having said that I have been out twice this week with a lot of dry salt on the roads so a good rinse off is due, followed by a spray of that 'maintenance' silicon spray on the cases. I use that in summer and acf in autumn/winter.
     
  19. I always thought your (the) contract was with the supplying dealer, ? getting the money back is their issue. Is it different for vehicles ?
     
  20. I'm getting issues on my 848 evo, the headlight support. Hopefully I have some luck with Ducati and can post a positive outcome :-( hope it gets sorted for u.
