Ducati aftercare - shocking

  1. You know I'm pissed off too ! My Multistrada I brought December last year so It's less than 3mths old and already I've had issued with corrosion (1) The exhaust valve was sticking further investigation the top of the pulley thing where the cable goes, the nipple has rusted solid I can't budge it, the exhaust bolt looks like something you would expect to take off something 10yrs old. (2) The inner disc brake cut outs are an eye sore, I've dab with some black hammerite. (3) The Brake Caliper bolts are mank and oxidising the ends of the cable runs are also black with shit. Fuck me my ST4 which is ten years old is in better nick.
    I've had to paint things, polish things up and I mean polish things up with dremel multi tool. Shouldn't be having to do this on a new bike.
    It was the Multi that saved Ducati arse from going under, it's there biggest seller, which has become a very mass produced bike...one I suspect now hasn't got the quality parts of previous years, instead using cheap metals and castings probably from fucking china!
     
  2. i know which make i wont be buying next time.
    love what i.v got but the new line up just aint cutting it.
    noticed this with my time with fiat the first production runs where terrible always sorted out under warranty no quibble. but still a royal pain in the ring. (i am and remain a fiat/alfa/ducati fan).
    but i wont be spending the hard earned on pish. i tend to keep my stuff long time and want some sort of longevity
    .
     
  3. I had the near side cover replaced on my 2010 bike. It was fine until I had the bike professionally cleaned and then the paint fell off.
    I may be wrong, and please don't think this is an excuse, but I suspect this is down to stone chips and then corrosion under the paint. This wouldn't be so much of a problem if, as suggested previous, the casing were etch primed so the paint was properly adhered to the casings.

    Alternatively they should have made the sump gurards protect the casings from the stones thrown up from the front wheel, or given it a sensible length front mudguard...
    I am considering putting some venture shield or similar on my casings to see if it helps.
     
  4. Perhaps they should treat the whole bike like they do boats!
    Bit of anti fouling, red oxide and finished off with hammerite.
    Piss poor really and I'd be chucking it back at them as not fit for purpose!
    I.E riding the bloody thing anywhere apart from round your front room.
     
  5. I've been thinking of selling mine and getting a Triumph or a GS
    I'm discussed at the speed mine has lost it's looks and the things that have gone wrong with it, I thought by now they would be all sorted and last much longer, but from where I'm sat at the moment it looks more like they have cut even more corners with coatings and quality. I'm not impressed I paid £17267.34 for my bike with an extra years warranty, I've just completed 2000 miles on it and it has had 5 warranty claims on it already, 2 of which I'm paying for after market parts so it doesn't happen every few 1000 miles.

  7. In all fairness I've seen a lot of Triumphs and GS's in a shocking state, particularly where engine paint is concerned. Could be like leaping from the frying pan into the fire. For the record, I took a sliver of engine paint from my old aircooled Multi to RS Bike Paints to be matched. The guy there said it was a very thin powdercoat, with no sign of any basecoat or primer. Engine paint has always been bad on Ducatis, looks like it hasn't improved much.
     
  8. Look, when it cmes down to it, a bot of corrosion isnt goimg to stop me buyng Ducati because the ride is what I'm buying then everything else second. Sure its pissing me off, sure I hope Ducati sort me out (esp the heads, bots and chain I'm not fussed) bit would it stop me buying another if they dont? Not if its still the best bike out there :upyeah:

  10. I have to disagree about the stone chips being the cause. Mine were replaced and you could clearly tell that there had not been any chips that could have been the cause.

    I am pretty amazed that some think this kind of unacceptable paint delamination is not something that should be rectified by Ducati. They should have sorted this engine paint problem out many years ago! I was very satisfied that DUK did the right thing and replaced mine last year without argument but the change in attitude that others have discovered is very poor.

  11. aftercare? rename it "afteryoupaidyercashgetfucked.com"

    similar but less pricey/annoying issue with a jacket that clearly shouldn't be in the condition it is for the limited use and age....

    i think its typical of virtually ALL of the service industry certainly in UK

    an no i don't hold to the opinion that overheads and all the other costs etc drive a companies ethos on aftercare

    i always believed that a companies foundation is built on customer satisfaction before during and after the exchange of cash

    maybe everyone who has had a recent similar problem with DUCATI should document it and send it to them as a form of petition...now audi are in charge maybe they will book up their ideas....although am not sure cos never owned an Audi. Do own a Porsche and can state that their after care IMHO has been excellent
     
  12. My mates taking his ktm1190 adv back for casings and rusty exhaust /13 reg 3000 miles same story what ever you buy I think

  14. I think as someone has said already, the contract of purchase is between you and the supplying dealer. Just because Ducati say no does not leave you without recourse with the dealer.
     
  15. wonder how much the 'damp' winter has affected these things

    I know my garage was a lot worse this year inside , last year may have been cold but it was dry. Any salt on rides was washed off. Harder to keep a bike out of a consistently damp atmosphere ,,,,,
     
  16. hopefully they have a dealer like mine cant fault them. but i suspect hands are tied. i will deffo have more ducs just none of the latest line up.
     
  17. I don't think the build quality has changed much over the years - they've never been able to paint an engine - but the type of buyer has. Ducatis used to be bought purely for the sublime performance, and everything else was simply put up with. Now it's not enough, despite the fact Ducatis are cheaper in comparison nowadays.

Not sure what a dealer could do, I mean if I look at mine and took that line, its the front cylinder head, all the bolt fixings at the front, belly pan, exhaust end cover, front discs, calliper bolts, banjos, chain, screen fasteners....and thats just the ones I can see when washing it. Then there are the marks that are already on the shock body...I'd find it incredibly unreasonable (and don't think you'd have a leg to stand on) to make the dealer change it all without DUK paying the bill.

    Fir for purpose doesn't stand imho, does it work? Yes. Then its ffp. What it looks like isn't an issue. Unless it will affect the performance of the part, where heads flaking etc will as surely once under the paint it will affect future performance.
     
  19. Best you could do is try to get the dealer to provide the parts at cost price.
