I'm planning a trip to Germany to have a crack on the Nurburgring and looking at luggage options. Did see some panniers but couldn't find a decent tank bag then my friend pointed out the kreiga set. In need to carry my Almax lock and some clothes, will it do the job? Also any tank bag recommendations? All for an 848.
I've used an r30 back pack for commuting in every weather the uk has to offer, never let a drop of water in. The feature it has of allowing expansion means you can throw a load of stuff in and the design means the weight is all towards your lower back so your not unsettled in corners. It does look like your wearing a parachute though! Highly recommend it.
I use a combination of US20 and 1 or 2 US10s for my touring luggage. They've never let the water in, even on a spectacularly rainy 2 day trip to Wales a couple of years ago. I've never had any concerns about them working loose, although I haven't carried a big heavy chain (just the usual changes of clothes, a few tools, waterproofs etc).
+1 for US10s and US20s. I use em on tail all the time. Even through a 100yr thunder storm they kept everything dry. Shame i wasn't in the tail pack too. I just use my seat cowl to secure them fine.
Probably the best kit on the market tbh. I think you will be ok with the chain as long as the kriega bag isn't wider than the seat it's on
I concur with these comments. I have a US20 and a US10 and they are excellent. I also have a Kriega dry bag that is just loose, in which I put anything else I want to keep dry before dropping it in a standard rucksack of theirs. Also excellent.
top kit fwiw, Almax used to supply the US10 as a tail pack with their chains so the are definitely strong enough
Agree with all the above, check my avatar, I'm carrying a US20 with 2 x US10 strapped one either side (tent, sleeping bag and roll mat on top of them) and a US10 on the tank. It rained all the way through northern France to the Alps and all the way back, kit never got damp. Once in the Alps the weather was superb!
In my experience the tailbacks are more waterproof that the rucksacks. My R25 lets a small amount in, but the tailback is superb
I've used Kriega kit for a while now and I find it the best I've ever had, not showing too many signs of wear and keeps stuff dry really well
The R3 is a handy bum bag too. Its also waterproof. I use the R15 ruckie and either the US20 or US10 (or both as they can affix to each other). I dont like too much on my back when riding, thus the R15 is perfect. And the R3 for baccie, passport, credit card, cash, etc. Remember to travel light. I'd rather be comfy and smelly than uncomfy yet clean. I use those high wick underlayers as they dry in minutes when washed in the sink.
Correct, the R25 isn't officially waterproof and yet mine has been superb. It's the best bit of kit I have ever bought for bike riding, especially seeing as I would try and avoid riding before if it meant that I had to carry a rucksack. My Buddy uses an R30 and it's been brilliant, neither of us would blink before buying another one.
Do we have a clue as to why the two riders at the weekend would not let you go ahead of them...? As for Kriega kit, I've got a 20, 10 and r3, and think it's very solid kit, does what's it's designed to do, well.
Don't waste money on the expensive dry bags . You can get roll top dry bags in camping shops to go in your Kriega .. Fraction of the price and just as good !! In fact when I brought my rucksack that's what I was advised to do . Have to say when shelling out so much for a rucksack I was really gutted only the top of the range one is classed by them as water proof! I got the best one they did for someone for Christmas one year and it leaked !!! Not good when you have a laptop in it . Had to get drybag. Get camping ones they are as good and less then a 1/3 of the price . Blacks did some good ones in various sizes.
