Hi guys, I forgot to ask, but does the 848 suffer from false neutral (or in this case 'false gears')? Following my test ride I pulled up at the dealership, put the bike in neutral (green tell tale light illuminated) then let go of the clutch. The bike lurched forward and took me by surprise (thank God I didn't drop it!). I felt a bit of a tit as there were a few people there watching, who I'm sure would never believe me if I told them?! Is this a common problem or something to be concerned about? Thanks
I've never had that happen, not on my own 848 or the 848EVO I rode. I did have a flee neutral last saturday when I was upshifting to fast. How many miles were on the bike? New'ish gearboxes can be stiff/reluctant to shift. I had a brand new SF848 to ride in for my dealer and the first 20km's it wouldn't go into neutral no matter what I tried.
Thanks for the quick reply mate. It was just shy of 10k on the clock. I mentioned it to the dealer and he said it sometimes can happen and was nothing to worry about.
Has been known to occur on my 1098. Feckin neutral light on but then pops forward when the clutch is released. I think its happened twice to me, not fully clicked into neutral i think.
I get the odd false neutral from 5th to 6th but only if I'm not paying attention. My neutral was a bit odd to start with. It would go into neutral but the light wouldn't come on. You could let the clutch out but if you put the stand down it would cut out thinking it was in gear. This has got better but there's still a nack to it like any bike.....something to get used to I guess.
Not happened to me on my 848 EC SE. But it can take a few goes to get it into neutral before the bike has warmed up. Once its warm it snicks in easily.
Thanks guys, I obviously tickled it into neutral. I may take another test today and pay closer attention?
hi mate. mine's got 13,200 miles on it and so far i've just had the one. i was upshifting from 1st to 2nd. not worried about it though. still just getting used to her! ;-) are you any closer to getting one yet? br, ian
Ha, almost! It's getting to the point where I don't want to wait much longer for a buyer for mine so am looking into the part ex options. I made a part ex offer at the weekend, which was turned down, although the part ex value of mine went up slightly. Made an offer yesterday, which would involve me paying a deposit but was told they'd get back to me - yet to hear anything?? Think I'll have a ride in a minute for another look at it.
I did....but....I didn't feel the love today??! Not sure why? Maybe because the novelty factor wasn't there? Maybe because Snells aren't budging on the price and wouldn't throw in a paddock stand to sweeten the deal? If I part ex I will have to use my credit card to fund part of the remainder, and I don't really want to. And then, to make matters worse, on the ride home I began to think that my current bike is worth more to me than what I'll sell it for and that it does do the long distance stuff pretty well and I'd be best off keeping it!! I'm keeping an open mind, and mine will remain up for sale for now but I think my best option is 2 bikes - keep this one and get a cheap R1 or something?
PMSL! Of all the responses I expected, that wasn't one of them!! I was thinking responsibly - God knows what got in to me, but you make a good point Bradders!
Could it because of what i call buying nerve's, every time i get a bike a think to myself do i really need this bike as i all ready have one/two/three but once i get it all is ok.
I think that's exactly it RT! The more time I wait the more I actually 'think' about it. So far I have deduced that the 848 will cost more than twice as much as the bmw in every way (insurance/servicing/fuel) and then yesterday I questioned just how comfortable it would be on a 400 mile round trip next weekend when I see family ooop north? If Snells would have offered me the right price I wouldn't have thought twice about it! And the paddock stand in question was offered to me at half price as part of the deal, but it retails at £175...!
If Snells would have offered me the right price I wouldn't have thought twice about it! Quote Give them your final offer and your number and leave it with them and keep looking for one, i need a stand but at that price i think i will look for a used one. As for comfort i think its a matter of getting used to it so far its not a problem for me and find it comfortable but a bit slippery on the seat, i have mentioned on here before that after 6 years owning a kr1s that was more cramped then an 848.
