MOT Today Rant

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by YellowDuc, Apr 2, 2014.

  1. So my 900ss was in for MOT today. Same garage I always use and where it has been for MOT last twice.

Tester tells me my pipes are too loud - the same tester who has passed it the last two times!!!!!!!!

Bike passed in the end, but my Termi's are marked underneath ' not for road use' apparently! Funny that cos they been like that all the time.

Just wanted to rant cos I had a crap day all round and this ust p**sed me right off all-round.

Anyone else had this type of crap?

    Cheers

  2. There is no db limit for the MOT I think its down to the discretion of the tester.

  3. Cheers mate appreciate that!!

  4. Agreed with C. It's possible for a tester to fail a bike, but there's no magic number and no db equipment. My local told me once that there's a national and regional failure rate. Any garage that is either side of the average gets special focus from the inspectors. Could be your local is being hassled.

  5. Its a magic 'its how they all sound' test and btw either get the not for polished out or cover with tape next time

  6. defo discretion of tester. vosa will pull you up if you appear to have a higher than normal fail rate.

  7. Sound is supposed to be "similar" to an original, therefore no limit. It's a bit inconsistent of the tester to pass it once and then fail it next time.

My local MOT station got visited and was asked why they MOT so many older bikes! and very few newer ones. They do keep an eye on things, maybe the guy has been under some pressure.

  8. +1 for quotas. If a few advisories dished out keeps the wolf from the door and friendly garage open then I personally would take said advice.

  9. I reckon more than likely the tester didn't see the Not For Road Use markings on previous tests, but he did this time.....

  10. My 999 had it's MOT yesterday and passed no hassle. The advantage of a fairly bog stock bike with just a few cosmetic baubles. A Termi'd bike would not pass in Switzerland - you'd have to put the stock pipes back on for the test.
The only thing the tester remarked on was that I have no rear reflector. I know, because I have no rear mudguard to put it on. But I smiled broadly and said what a good idea fitting one would be. And that was that. He didn't even mention my soon-to-be-worn-out front tyre, which I thought might elicit a comment at least. A fellow tester came and admired my bike. I think the testers are happy to have a Ducati to do. I suspect them of being bike fans.
