I'd like to have been a fly on the wall when he and Andria Dovizzyroadblock had a chat after the race, Cal was faster and desperate to get past him but as normal Dovi made his bike as wide as possible and settled for where he was after the first couple of corners.
So frustrating to watch that as you reckoned that had Cal got past quickly, he could have given Lorenzo a run for his money. In my pre-race prediction, Cal was meant to come 4th and Spies 5th. If Dovioso had been a bit easier to overtake and Stoner hadn't lost it, I'd have been right. If.
Thats racing, being hard to overtake is just a important a being super fast when you're at that level. Cal pressed on, took a risk as he was frustrated and it never paid off. Doesn't do him any harm in h long run tho
Good on Cal'. He could have ridden tactically and come in behind Dovi (as could Casey with Dani), but went for it. As you say it's a race. He's been treated badly by Tech3 - see Poncharal's reaction when he ran wide?
He definitely did the right thing. He had to try something. It didn't pay off, but he showed his class - and that's the main thing. He's not going to win the championship and probably won't finish in the top 3 this year. Most important thing is surely to be seen as a great contender.

I've been banging on about Redding on a Ducati for a while now.....I hope its right, even with the current VDS team bagging a customer bike from Ducati like the AB bike would be a good thing to see.....fingers crossed
Why not? At the moment we've got Honda/Yamaha at the front of the usual procession, with Ducati factory / Pramac scrapping further down.
How do you work that out? I've never heard Herve be anything other than complimentary and supportive of Cal. As far as his reaction to Cal running wide - perhaps he was expressing disappointment, frustration or astonishment.
Fair enough, you are right, there are other interpretations. But for all his efforts he wont be there next year. Actions speak louder ..? Would be interesting to see him on a Ducati.
