why do people not like the 749/999

  1. Hi folks just want to throw a question out there why do so many people run down the 749/999 Ducati,s because of their looks every time you read any thing about the bikes people always compare them against the 916 series. Its not just because I own a 749s but I think both bikes have their place one every bit as good as the other. I think alot of people forget that the 999 won a world super bike champion ship as well as the 916 series did.

  2. My 998 stays in the garage, my 999's live in the house :)

  3. eh? they're cracking.

  4. I for one were never a fan of there looks when they first appeared but have a 999s in my little collection for years now and can't say anything bad about these bikes. I used to have a 749s in my collection but always thought it just lacked any real power. Now I have many bikes to choose from but am never disappointed if I end up taking the 999s. A great under appreciated bike all-round and now there look fits in more than when it was first launched.

  5. Exige those 999,s are stunningly gorgeous

  6. Its ugly. Especially at the front. From back looks ok

  7. Hi Speedy I agree with you the reason I dont have a 999 is it scared the wits out of me when I first road one hence I went for the 749 lol

  8. Bradders, you used to have a 916SPS now you have a Multistrada - you seriously are not fit to comment on this issue... :Stop:

  9. Bradders I dont agree I think it really sets the bike apart. I do love the style of the 916 series, however the one thing I wish they had done was to keep the twin exhauts. But the way I think is I own a Ducati am very lucky.

  10. Exige, consider yourself ignored, SPS best looking bike ever. Fact. From every angle. Fact. Nuff said

  11. But you're right about the old multi, not necessarily the new one ;)

  12. Who better to comment then than someone who has experienced both the pinnacle of motorcycle design and a fuggly. I'm with Bradders, the 749 was not the most attractive of bikes at its launch and it the first Ducati I got pulled on when I took one out from Snell's for a test ride. The copper was convinced I was a dealer out for a joy ride and claimed he thought I was "making progress". Damn right I was in the opposite direction to him. To be fair, not every incarnation of the Porche is particularly good looking but it doesn't stop it being a classic. Andy

  13. Mmmm, I think that was what I was saying, you got rid and now have a multi - hence you can no longer comment...

  14. It went in bits...alas biggest biking regret I have

  15. Gotta agree, that after the 916/748 the 749 was a sorta ugly younger sister.....

Then again, I haven't had my mince pies tested recently.....

  16. Well the jury is still out then people still compare the two bikes too harshly I think.

    :)

  19. The dalek side light, stacked headlights and outrigger side blades are what put me off. Of all bikes that look far better in race paint, this is the most

  20. Race prepped 749/999's look far far better than road going ones.
916 bikes look good in all guises.
