1098 rad and fans

  1. Hi there.
Changed a leaking radiator for a mate on his 1098 last week.
He had brought the radiator with new fans etc already fitted & running freely.

When i fitted the new radiator and ran it up for the first time the fans did not cut in and the fuse blew.
On checking the fans the left hand fan seemed to be binding and not free.

Taking off the lower rad mounting bolt and pulling the radiator forward i noticed the throttle cable seemed really close. Steel elbows/guide for cables.

Depending on the steering angle the cables move and were touching the fan very slightly.

A small cable tie to attach both cables together and pulling the closet cable away from the fan. Care was taken not to restrict the throttle cable free movement.

So if you have a problem with your fans not working etc check the throttle cable before changing the fans.

  2. Any pointers for fitting fans to a 1098 rad.. Is there an easy way to tackle this? Pics would be fab? Thanks

  3. Just swapped over my burst rad on the 848 for a new un... Removed the fans off the original when I was taking it out, total waste of time as it all comes out complete... Anyway, I dont have the pictures but its easy as hell, top n bottom fairing off... Three screws on each fan & unclip the two looms... Piece of piss

(Edit) the inner screws are a bugger to reach but nothing an angled ratchet with a phillips head wont sort

  4. & this can be done with the rads in situ? As you said it looks tight to get the bolts in & tighten them??

  5. I took mine off in situ aye... So the reverse can't be too difficult... Did you already buy the fans? I've two sat in the shed doing nowt If you havnt... Bung us the postage & they are yours (If you dont have em already)

  6. Thanks. Will give it a go.. Yep brought a 2nd hand pair last month. Just my luck . Thank for the offer.. Just working my way through the bits I need to stick it back on the road
