NY - advice required...

  1. Anyone know the best way to get from New York (JFK) airport to Newark (EWR) airport ? Connection time is tight - so advice on quickest way would be appreciated...

  2. Helicopter :)

  3. Hmmm... That might be a very expensive option !

  4. ETS Air shuttle is about $32 booked in advance and claims to take about 60 minutes. The alternatives are the Air Train which is free but calls at every lamp post, hire car pick up point and terminal and can take well over 2 hours, Yellow Cab which takes about 90 minutes and is metered not fixed price and private limo hire which takes the same time as a taxi and will be about $50. Transit time will very much depend on the time of day you land but be prepared for it to busy at any time. We landed about 1am and it still took 3 hours to get into NY. If you cannot avoid morning (7 to 9) and afternoon (4 to 6) rush hours you may need to pay the extra for a private hire. Hope this helps, Andy

  5. Whilst I think about it JFK is notorious for illegal cabbies. The Yellow Cabs are the only taxis permitted to take fares at the airport but because there are too few of them there is a bit market in uninsured cabbies. In some cases people have entered the arrivals hall and had their bags ripped from them by touts who then almost force you to get into one of their taxis. My advice what ever you choose to do is book ahead and stick to that booking. Andy

  6. I'd look at changing flights to arrive and depart from the same airport. Getting from one to the other is a real pain, especially in rush hour.

Bad enough changing terminals at JFK.....

  7. Thanks for the advice Andy... We booked a car in advance and made the connection no problem - picked up at the JFK terminal and delivered straight to the EWR terminal : just over 30 minutes. Lincoln Limousines - highly recommended !

  8. Pleased everything worked out. Have a great time. Andy

  9. Well done, that is really good going. The distance from JFK terminals to Newark terminals is 19 miles as the crow flies and 30 miles by road; the road also includes some tunnels and bridges. So the Lincoln must have averaged 60 mph across the city. Like I said, good going.

  10. Let me see....... The quickest way between 2 airports......... I know, an aircraft of some description, surely

  11. Maybe it was a bit more than 30 minutes - to be honest I wasn't paying that much attention - but the point is that we made the connection in plenty of time. HA50 into JFK from Hawaii - LH7624 from EWR to London, just in case you're wondering Pete...
