Looks is a big part - love the mono seat unit, the tank shape, the head-stock, the dash..... The power delivery The sound The racing pedigree It's a bit different! And one factor that really surprised me was that it fits my 6ft over-weight frame quite well too.
I loved the overall packaging. It was different to everything else at the time of launch and that was no bad thing IMO.
Because in the words of slider (I think) gutsy move maverick! It may not have been the right timing (or we weren't ready) but it was a design statement, and if u strip the clothes off, the bike was a huge step forward, can wiring etc, better placement of essential bits. the 05 facelift should have been the launch one as I think it's prettier, and the rear end was never quite 'finished' but it was a bold move.
I like all the details - as others have said. Just study the facets and angles on that tank. I believe it is still the biggest-winning superbike which is nice to tell your mates (if you are into the racing. I think it looks gorgeous from all angles apart from the front. Which is 'distinctive' - and can be only be one of 2 bikes....or variants. I have had mine since 2008 (it is a 2005 model) and I still cant think of anything I would - or could - swap it for. RB
As a new biker i cannot comment on how much better the 749 is over the 748. I decided on a 748 mainly because of the looks. Personally i am not a big fan of the front lights and i dont see ducati using the same style on the new bikes. I think the 749 has a better looking rear. The 749 looks more like a tourer sitting next to a 748. However they are both pretty bikes.
Excuse me!! A tourer? Words fail me. You've got it right Mr C. Properly built. Tourer...........................
Sorry, but its just a personal opinion. As i said im new to the bike world so i will probably shoot myself in the foot on this forum many times
Dont worry mate. I am new here myself - though returned to bikes 10 or 12 years ago. I used to have a 900ssie (not the original carbie job). I loved that too. And.....it was yellow (gasp). Cheers RB
