Well today my Multi went. Here she is just before I let her go, didn't she look pretty and clean?: I can hear it all now, people saying you should have kept it, other saying good riddance. But its just not for me...... Well......Not in this style anyway Fear not :Stop: She's just gone off to get a new wardrobe Its an epic bike and for me I'm amazed at how well it can be chucked around but also now cater for the Mrs as she's really wanting for us both to do some biking together this year. Who am i to argue with that? I get to keep the track bike for another season and she doesn't mind me spending oodles of money on the road bike as she's wants it to look nice if she's going on the back.....women eh I've been playing with some designs for a while now and following a soul searching ride out the other night I just couldn't help myself and pulled the plug on a new paint job. Dropped her off this morning with plenty of images and a good brief for the man undertaking the task. :Nailbiting: I'll update the transformation as and when I get more pictures to show but I'll upload some designs later. I'll have a few more parts to add but expect an overall meaner looking steed. The Pikes Peak Black Edition is born (little nod to Audi there) :Wideyed:
Chap in Derby, he does a fair amount of restoration work on some really nice classic stuff but has also done the usual superbike race rep stuff. I spoke to a few painters (I'm only 500yrd from dream machine) and whilst I appreciate it's not going to be the most elaborate job like high detailed race reps some of them just seemed a bit like I was just another number. I just had a better conversation with Mike and as he's local enough I've given him the project. I'll get his details up later as he's just moved to a new unit this last week so I'm sure all references will be welcome.
I'm sure it won't be to everybody's taste but it does look good in the mock ups, I've just gotta do the hard work now and spend lots of penny's
About bloody time too Dammo ! I seem to recall talking about this in January I'm sure it will look great mate, I am well pleased with mine. What sort of money are they charging (bearing in mind there will be a fair bit of labour to remove / refit the trellis) ? So now the wait begins...
Well all the best ideas take time to grow.... Either that or I was simply waiting for the money I've decided against doing the trellis for a number of reasons, mainly because I don't want to risk such an overhaul and damage the bike as they are hugely advanced and I'd rather keep the factory spec element to the bike but work purely on cosmetics, also because my design is based on a darker theme and the red trellis whilst nice looking kind of detracts from the looks I'm after. I will however have some red elements such as pin striping, the standard side fairing Pikes peak stripes and the rear subframe will be changed to red as a small section like that poses minimum risk in removal but also adds something I've not seen before so makes it that little bit different. I'll be having the bars, belly pan, sump guard and a few other bits blackened by a mixture of powder coat, anodizing and possibly a super tough paint type coating that's initial use comes from the rail industry so that should protect well against stone chips and the road grime. I'll be doing some testing first to make sure it works with the supplier but so far they've assured me if I want tougher than powder coat or anodising then this is the route to explore. Now I need to get my exhaust and tyres on order along with deciding what new chain to fit as I don't do rust. I'm also looking in to replacing all bolts where possible to stainless but really could do with finding a full list of bolts used on the bike, I don't really want to go the pro bolt route buying pre made packs as their stainless is no better than some I can buy locally but also there's a lot that pro bolt simply don't offer. I've had a search online but can't find anything, I'm going to have a word with a friendly service centre and see if they have a full list of all fixings so I can just update everything. Things like rear sprocket may have to wait for a bit but I'm looking in to new front discs at the moment so they'll be a few bits of shinyness to add I hope
Sounds great Damo. Hopefully your missus will love it, mrs W is well pleased with ours I am still pondering whether to do the sump guards black. I want to get a cylinder head guard sorted too, but not seen one I like yet. Looking forward to your finished pics
Too long I'm estimating 3 weeks but if it's before I don't want to rush it as paint stays soft for a while, will fit the venture sheild back on after its hardened over a week or so
Apparently so, well to a certain extent so I'm told Either way it won't hurt to give it the proper time
no mate no harm waiting , can't wait to see this as well just hope i don't get bad case of the i wants
Well seats dropped off yesterday for an over haul, was given far too many choices on finish so my head went to pieces and i left with loads of sample's, luck would have it a Ducati dealer was near by so i went and looked at a genuine PP style seat and have made up my mind, will be a mixture of grip style material on the sides of the riders seat with a semi smooth finish where my arse is, theory being the grip is where my knees/legs will be if hanging off a touch and the smooth part lets me move about easier setting up for corners when ive got a wriggle on (99.9% of the time) the main area of the passenger seat done in grip to stop the mrs falling off Also this magically turned up at the house yesterday, i don't remember ordering it so it cant have cost that much (honestly dear) Loving the black finish and even the little red stripe is on brand with the paint job so all should fit in nicely: oh for those wondering what the extra 2 db killers look like, well here you go....... i prefer loud so these will stay new i reckon:
There a nice exhaust, and very loud n deep. I get a popping when I close the throttle. It's a real head turner when you ride past all the new dads taking there kids for a walk, pretending life is bliss. Oh one thing though, I had to trim 6mm off the length of the rear downpipe so that it would line up with the original hanging bracket and allow the front part to slide into the front downpipe a bit further.
