1200 mode question

  1. do you know if after having battery disconnected for six weeks will all my modes will be back to default?

suppose I could get off my fat lazy ass n go check!

  2. Christ it really is quiet on this one isn't it, any joy yet?

  3. Lol yeah, I seem to remember reading something about it a while ago and think it does go back to default, it doesn't really matter I'd just messed with a few settings can't remember what I'd done exactly.

  4. Id imagine disconnect the battery at all and it defaults to std

  5. Talking modes, is there any instructions for a simpleton to say what settings does what with Sky Hook, or is it just play and ride and change?

  6. Yes if you disconnect the battery, even for a minute all the mode settings return to factory default settings.

  7. Agreed, all settings will revert to default.
Andys site has a little table with standard, and a couple of people's settings, including mine.

It would be handy to collect the standard vs modified settings for a few people on skyhook bikes.

  8. Has anyone ridden both skyhook and non skyhook multis? I am struggling to find a comfortable setting that handles well at speed on my skyhook, and I I remember when I rode non skyhook that bike handled everything I could throw at it with ease and in great comfort,my multi seems to have harsh and jittery suspension in comparison, and I now have the suspension settings on softest with preload on 8. Any ideas anyone? I'm almost of a mind to say there is something wrong,it's just not compliant enough in my book.

  9. I've ridden both, although not played with the settings on the skyhook, just used what it was set to.

I found the suspension quite harsh, although it was better when two up.
I quite like firm suspension, and fitted the stiffer spring to my 2010 bike (for 2up touring). When I had it's rear damper preload rebuilt, I had an extra 3mm static preload put on.
By comparison the skyhook as you say was quite jittery over crap road surfaces, and even when I put it into urban it still wasn't as compliant as my ohlins bike.

I think it's been said before, that those who havent tried the ohlins bikes find riding the skyhook just great, but those coming from ohlins find it, well, as you've described above.

  10. I find it gets better the faster you ride. So a speed bump and 20 in touring feels like a regular suspension, but a pothole at 80 it reacts and glides over. Doesnt matter which mode. And when pace picks up, urban is way too soft and wallowy esp on quick direction changes, the chassis copes but doe st like it. Same roads, more speed it touring and it swims along fine

  11. I found it exactly the same on my demo ride last year, really didn't feel like the same bike I tried before (which was an ohlins)

Luckily I have an ohlins, doesn't help the op though.

Must be some good set up info on tinterweb somewhere

  12. Maybe we need an ohlins skyhook model!! Am I right in saying that there is no adjustments under the headings of compression and rebound,I can only find pre load and the symbols for rider plus luggage etc and settings of soft medium and hard.

  13. Can I ask how heavy you are? I'm fairly big and found the rear suspension quite hard even with no preload after riding for a few miles it firmed it's self up. I'm pretty sure it was the Sky hook adjusting the dampening effect on the shock to try and help the bike lift the back end.
I've just fitted a stronger spring and get this it's much better, you'd think it would be worse but it glides over bumps now with no teeth shaking and my coccyx don't hurt half as much now. see here Rear shock upgrade | Ducati Forum

  14. No youre wrong, they cannot be done on the fly (or maybe under 10mph) but you can adjust the lot.

  15. I appreciate the lot can be adjusted, but I struggle to see what positive effect it has on the ride.

  16. thanks for the info,btw I am about 80 kilos,diet started today!

  17. I changed from a 2010 model with Ohlins to a 2013 Skyhook model. Initially I found it harsh, so I backed off the rear preload a bit and changed the damping to soft, front and rear, for all modes/loads. I also reduced the front preload (manually); from nearly the maximum, where when I got it, to about half way. This helped but the ride is still not as plush as with Ohlins suspension. I did find that the Ohlins was under sprung for two up touring, whereas the Skyhook suspension has stiffer springs and is much better two up.

Like others, I think the ride quality improves the faster you go. I do like the reduced dive under braking, as well as the reduced squat when accelerating. I also think the front wheel doesn't come up so easily under hard acceleration. The reduced dive and squat definitely help when two up.

  18. every effect. Hard compression and slow rebound will be entirely different to soft/hard irrespective of preload
