I love the wings as well, I like that thin long gap you can see through from a certain angle. Black swing arm is a work of art. The whole bike is purposeful, raw and involving. I get on with this bike far more than previous Ducati's I have owned. I can put it exactly where I want, properly confidence inspiring
Back in 2006 when I brought my 1st sports bike after years of chops & cruisers, it was only ever going to be a Ducati. The 749 looked unique & exotic compared to the 748 and that's why I brought it - it still looks unique today. My original 749 did about 35,000 without any serious problems in 2 years before being written off when a car pulled out from a side road straight in front of me. Since then I have owned a 1098s Tricolore (in red IMO the 1098 looked a little too Honda at the time) and a 749r with a load of trick factory parts on it. The 749r is without doubt the best motorbike I have ever ridden. I'm just about to pick up a 998s Bostrom rep which I've been lusting after for about 3 years, but the thought of picking it up later in the week still doesn't get my heart racing like when I 1st picked up my original 749. If I had to sell my bikes the 749r would be the keeper.
For me soooooo many things , always liked the looks , my how the 916 range now looks dated and the **9 doesnt ! (shock people after my scalp now ) but its true . I always wanted a duke but before family ect got in the way was after a jota or 900ss (having had a lemans 1 ) the jota came along and no duke . Fast forward lots of years and duke itch came back , i had a think and a look around ect and got an 04 999s .After owning it for 1 year all the design and adjustability details come through and make ownership a thing of pride ., read the Ducati 999 book for example it was truely ahead of its time especially for a v small company . the best thing was , last summer at a petrol station on the way to Festival of 1000 bikes an M C N staffer accosted me and regaled me with tales of how upuntil then it was the most memorable bike he had ridden , (not for the wrong reasons ) , and frankly i struggled to get rid of him with my mates waiting to leave .
I always thought it should have been the SuperSport replacement, 1100cc aircooled 2V with side exit exhausts. Like most people not keen at first but now really like them.
I've been looking for another bike 5k ish and I can't get past a 999 no matter which way I look ............. I didn't care for them much at the time but they have massively grown on me. I think a 999s in the black ltd edition is mega
Ill probably have it then. Im not in a hurry to sell. Insurance runs out end of may and need to look at things then. Gimme a shout then if you wish. I will pay your petrol home if you look and dont like as it is the best 999s ive seen. You could eat your dinner off it
