848 Fast Action Throttle

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Hutch, Apr 14, 2014.

  1. Guys.. I realise this has been covered a few times before but I'm stuck at work & dont have time to sift through the threads (but have time to order the bits online.... Ok... I'm being lazy haha).... So, a fast action throttle for my 08 848.... Whats the best way to go with little or no re-work... What parts do I need & is it all easy enough to do?

    Cheers y'all

  3. & that sucker slips straight on no issues?.. ive no idea how these work.. electric? Cable?

  4. One ordered from Wemoto.. Out of bloody stock though... Same as Tamworth Yamaha down the road.. Still, its ordered.. Cheers Nelson.

  5. R1 looks easy enough but has anyone done the R6 tube on here? Nelson did you go R1 or 6?

Me being an impatient sod I'm waiting on Tam Yam to tell me if they have any R6 tubes in stock.

  6. The R1 went straight in.
I did try the R6, it was too big and the throttle wouldn't turn in the housing.
I did have a go dremeling (is that a word) it out, but failed! I tried using the R6 tube with the housing, that didn't work as the fixed curved bit of the throttle cable is all wrong.
If there is way of getting the R6 one to operate I'd like to know.

  7. Ok cheers bud... Seems the R6 one is out of stock too so I'll not bother.. I just need a bit of patience :Arghh:

  8. Have a look on ebay for a used one?

  9. I've had a scout & there wasnt a whole lot on there for the R1.. Not looked for the R6 but the parts guy at Tammy Yamaha thinks he may have one off his R6 knocking about in his garage.. He's going to bell me tomorrow either way... R1 one (?) is on order & paid for from Wemoto anyway so it'll not take too long... Thing is she's having her dyno / ECU remap this Thursday at BSD & although that doesnt make a difference to BSD its a fair ride to Peterborough with some damn nice roads.. I wanted a bit of (extra) fun!!

  10. Watching this with interest I really wanted to get a quick action for mine so if there is a cheap way of doing it i'm all in :upyeah:

  11. Right.....I admit I am a technical numpty.........but what the fuck is a fast action throttle? Surely it's only as fast as your wrist action allows?

  12. more throttle for less twist.

  13. more throttle for less twist.

  16. Recently back from Ireland & had a go on my mates Millie... The throttle on it was fantastic & I think a 1/4 turn from nothing to the stops... All in it allowed me to proper gas it & still be in a comfortable position on the bike... Went out on mine Sunday for a play, I'd always assumed that a 'normal' twist put me close enough to the stops but I was wrong & ended up having to roll my wrist right under to do this.. Bearing in mind I'd like to be keeping as much weight over the front to stop the front wheel lifting (too much) so all this felt a bit ming... The other option is to roll the wrist well forward before grabbing throttle..... Quick action means its less twist but the same throttle... For me I'd like this as it feels a more natural position on the bike..

  17. And are people really that bothered about twisting 5mm less? I'm confused and my flabber is gasted

  18. I get all sorts of issues with my hands on the bike due to the weight on the wrists, a bit of arthritis and generally being old ! So anything that reduces the wrist action will no doubt help.
