Rear Tyre Feels "weird"

  1. GT1000 Sport Classic, 19,000 miles, Avon Storm Ultra 2 tyres. Yesterday afternoon noticed that at low speed it feels like the rear tyre has a "lump" in it. Checked it over and can see nothing wrong. It is a spoked rear wheel, all spokes are OK they all go "doink" when tapped with a screwdriver (this is scientific way of testing spke tension..)
Feels like it is "out of round"
Booked in to tyre shop tomorrow to take a look, anyone else had this?
Tyre is a bit squared off but other than that OK...
Could be be something other than tyre?

  2. out of balance maybe?

  3. Yes, feels like that. Did over 200 miles at weekend, funny how it suddenly started doing this, all the weights present and correct as far as I can see...

  4. is there any puncture prevention liquid inside it?

  5. No, nothing like that...

  6. Sorted. Its the tyre. Tied a paper pointer to a few mm between front of tyre and swing arm and rolled the bike forward, at one point the tyre touches the pointer. A close look shows a deep cut about 1cm long deep in one bit of the tread. I can see what looks like a bit of the tyre carcass... New tyre time! Did same pointer trick with the wheel rim, that stays true all the way round. Wonder what caused it?

  7. New tyre this morning and all feels well. Here is a pic of the old one. Avon rep to look at the old one I MIGHT get a few quid back if he thinks its a tyre fault...

  8. That was probably caused by running over a small bit of glass. My back tyre has several of those little tears. Glad you got another tyre, but that really shouldn't deform it
