Start Button

  1. Hi guys sometimes when I press my start button nothing happens then it might click as going to start then nothing then eventually it will start sometimes it does this and sometimes it's fine any idea what the prob could be?

Huge amount of compression in these twins mate, I've found with mine that 9 times out of 10 its fine but see if the engine stops at a certain point in its rotation (at a guess furthest point from the inital spark) it can be a real struggle for the battery to shift the piston to the point of ignition... Add a weak battery into the mix & this MAY be the problem... How old is your battery?
     
  3. My 1198 is similar. Always has been. Never known different and Ive had it from new. So to me its normal. My 916 is similar.

    1198 also hates a hot start. Like if you go out for a wee while, then stop for petrol. Then firing her up needs some throttle applied. Not much mind. Got worse since i had my exup valve removed cos its a tad rich now at tick over/small revs. But i need to get her on a dyno anyway.
     
  4. The 848's the same on a hot start... Mines off for a dyno / remap tomorrow, I'll let you know if it makes a difference Boots...
     
  5. Cheers. Probably won't. Its not an issue really. The richness is a pain tho as Ive also just put a slipper on with brand new plates and its giving a squeal when I pull away. Might need to swap a convex plate in to let it slip cleaner. The rich throttle exacerbates its annoyance.
     
  6. To be honest could be the batt since I got the bike in oct if I leave it for 4 or more days the batt is pretty much flat
     
  7. Could well be that then... Motobatt AGM batteries are a popular upgrade... I've one on mine & its great

  9. I'm pretty sure mine's also OEM. Had it on an optimate now for a few weeks and doesn't seem to make any difference. Might get one this weekend. Strange thing is, just over a month ago when it was at the dealer's, it would start by pressing the button and releasing. Not so now. Makes me wonder if the buggers have changed the battery! But seeing as they fitted new belts without being asked to....
    I'll just keep quiet & happy.

  11. could anyone using a motobatt give us the model number please???
    and can you use a standard optimate tender with them?
    just looking them up on amazon.

  12. cheers, mate.

    had a mess about with mine this aft. the optimate always shows green. let the bike warm up to 104 degrees then i imagine the fan kicked in and dropped to 98, then back up again. the voltage was showing 14.3 - 14.7 V all the time. (didn't hear the fans going though). all seems ok but she won't start up on the button, easily & with just a push. must be the battery???
