I'm right at the end of my 750ss restoration, and I only need a couple of nuts and bolts to be finished. I'm trying to match the original bolts and the only ones I havn't been been able to obtain are: - Brake disk mounting bolts I have found some shiney stainless ones on ebay but I would like some un polished. They're a bit too bling for me haha Ducati Monster SS ST Front & Rear Brake Disk Disc Mtg Bolts - 18 off | eBay - Rear mudguard mounting bolts I think these have a truss head but I can't find any hex ones. I probably weon't bet any black ones but I don't mind painting them. Any help would be much appreciated as then the bike will be finished Cheers, James
If youve got shiny ones. I can get the lads to glass powder blast them at work as an option. It dulls them right down in a lovely way
Are you sure they are stainless? The reference on the head doesn't appear to be for stainless and it is bl**dy difficult to find zinc plated and stainless low head socket cap bolts of the size needed.......... These are stainless........ A2 Stainless M8 Socket Low Head Cap Screws (DIN 7984) The OEM bolts are zinc plated...........even finding them was difficult. The rear mudguard ones can be done with button heads or socket head flange buttons (slightly lower in profile than button heads)
Thanks for the offer The standard ones aren't but I've done the rest of the bike in stainless so it would be nice if they matched. I'm being really picky but I'm really after the same as the original ones. Worst case I'll try and clean up and paint the old ones
Just a friendly warning, the standard ones aren't stainless for a reason. I was going to replace mine with stainess not so long ago, until I spoke to by brother-in-law who has been a bike mechanic for over 40 years. He warned me off as, MOST stainless steel bolts are not High-Tensile steel with the required 'shear' strength for use to hold on brake discs. You need to be sure that you've got the correct type of stainless steel bolts, or else you MAY have a catastrophic failure on your hands. Please be sure and if their cheap or of Chinese origin, I'd steer well clear. In the end, I went to my local fasterner specialist Wentin Fasteners www.wentinfasteners.co.uk and got some standard black high-tensile bolts for a few quid. Sure, they'll go rusty eventually but at least I'm happy knowing they won't snap.
